You can apply after class 12th from any stream. If your class 12th is in Arts, then It will help you for a longer run as Arts include many subjects which help you in many ways. If you have completed your gradation from any stream then you can apply for post graduate or post graduate Diploma in mass communication and journalism. To take admission you have to pass through entrance exam or on merit basis. Like I have completed my mass communication from NIMCJ, Ahmedabad they have MACJET Entrance Exam for admission.

I don't know about cut-off, but I'd suggest not to take B.Sc in mass communication in St. Xaviers, because I am currently a student of Media Science and a former Xaviers student suggested me not to go for it, because it is not good and less importance is being given in college about this course.

You cannot do a degree/Diploma course before completing higher secondary which means class 12th. Though, there are short term course in photography which you can do while being in any standard. All the best.

Mass communication and Journalism is growing in India day by day and there is a lot of scope in Electronic media as well as in Print media. Radio and TV journal are too there in the scope. Main motive is to read newspaper and watch news. Almost all news channels will give you the breaking news, most of the newspapers will give you news of many areas, regions, cities, state etc. It is just that you have to focus to build your knowledge, awareness about current affairs, and command on languages (mainly Hindi and English). I would suggest you to read newspapers of both languages and news channels as well. And, moreover watch different news channels and read different newspapers, so that you will get to know the presentation in different manner of the same news.

You can prepare for the entrance by Reading newspapers, watch news, and Practice reasoning, grammar, General knowledge. Either, buy a book which covers all the above syllabus, or you can prepare from All India Exams online http://www.allindiaexams.in/home
