Career as a Merchant Navy could be in 2 fields mainly - Engineer or a Cadet. Other fields could be catering, junior offiecers, etc. Subjects Required :Only PCM students can apply. Entrance Exam
IMU- CET :Indian Maritime University conducts an entrance exam IMUCET for various courses such as B.Sc. Nautical Science, B.Sc. Marine, B.Sc. Marine Catering, etc. You are also required to clear an interview and medical check-up. JEE T. S. 4 courses you can take to become a cadet officer in merchant navy after class 12:
1) B. S. Nautical Technology
2) B.Sc. Nautical Science
3) HND Nautical Science
4) Diploma in Nautical Science
The prerequisites to join a maritime course pertaining to the Merchant Navy are generally kept to the minimum, except the physical fitness and medical requirements. There are pros and cons to each career. The right stream must be chosen by an individual commensurate with his interest in that specific area of study followed by work. Merchant marine offers a lot of job options from technical to non-technical professionals. Radio officers, captains, able-bodied seamen, chefs, first mate and second mate are the kind of jobs that are available to the interested people. Candidates are required to satisfy the age limit criteria. They should be between17-25 years of age when the course starts.
Educational qualifications:
Only class 12th science stream students with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects, who have successfully cleared the board examinations are eligible to apply for this course. Aggregate marks requirement is 60%.

Admission process to become an engineer in the merchant navy after class 12 is mentioned below:
Admission for a position in the merchant navy is through an entrance followed by a screening test and a main written examination. After clearing the test, there is an interview and a medical test. You also need to complete a ship-training course prior to the employment. The course is generally short-term where the candidates are taught basic security concerns of voyaging.
