You have to clear SSB. Speaking about the test process, it is the easiest test where you just have to be yourself. They assess your personality. There is no need to actually prepare anything. Technically, as a trait of your personality you must know what happening around you, in the world, in your country. After spending 4 years of your education in the field you chose, you must have knowledge about it, just the basic knowledge of what you studied. They just look for a responsible personality. If you search you will find OLQ (Officer Like Qualities) which are 15 in count. Those qualities should be present in you which you must also be able to showcase in the tasks they give you. If you have those qualities, it will automatically flow from you so you don't have to worry about it.

There are 2 major profiles through which you can join the Merchant Navy Engineer & Cadet.
A. Deck Cadet or Navigating Officer
In this category, the career will start as a Deck Cadet, and the job responsibility would primarily be that of maintenance and running of the ship, tanks, cargo, etc. Education Required:
You can pursue your B.Sc. Nautical Science, B.Sc. Marine, B.Sc. Marine Catering, etc. You should have PCM in Class 12th to pursue a career in Merchant Navy. Admission Process to be a Cadet in the Merchant Navy:
1. IMUCET You are required to clear IMUCET which is conducted by Indian Maritime University. Once you clear IMUCET you are eligible for B.Sc. Nautical Science in all the colleges affiliated to Indian Maritime University. The entrance exam is followed by an interview and medical check-up.
2. JEE In various government colleges, the admission is based on the marks secured on the JEE exam which is conducted by the IITs. The admission in T. S. Chanakya, Marine Engineering & Research Institute, Kolkata, & National Maritime Academy, Chennai. Is based on the JEE marks. They are required to fill the forms for IMU as well. HIMT College (Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training), Tolani Maritime Institute, Anglo Eastern Maritime Academy, Applied Research International School of Maritime Studies, Great Eastern Institute of Maritime Studies, etc. Some of the other entrance exams are TMISAT (Tolani Maritime University), WBJEE (West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination), CUSAT CAT (Cochin University of Science and Technology), etc. B. Engineer
