It is recommended that NDA preparation begin as soon as possible, following the 10th board exam, to achieve optimal performance in the written exam. After their 12th board exam, some students wish to get ready. They can pass the exam as well, but they will need to dedicate 8-10 hours a day for 8-12 months to studying.

The release of NDA question papers depends on when the exam is conducted. For instance:

  • The question paper for the first NDA exam of the year is released by the UPSC within two to three days after the exam is conducted.
  • The question paper for the second NDA exam of the year is typically released by the UPSC on the exam date itself (September 1st) or shortly after.

The NDA 1 cutoff in 2022 was 720 for the final selection and 360 for the written exam (with at least 25 percent of the possible points in each topic). The NDA 1 Cut Off 2023 is 301 out of 1800 for the written exam, with at least 25% of the marks in each subject. Of those marks, 664 are obtained by the last recommended applicant (Final Stage) out of 1800. The National Defense Academy (NDA) exam is notoriously difficult, with a scant 0.1% of candidates passing it. This implies that applicants may need to make several tries before they succeed. There will be 900 marks for the NDA written exam and 900 marks for the NDA SSB.

The list of exam locations has been made public by the UPSC, which administers the NDA Exam. Seventy cities around the nation are scheduled to host the exam. It is necessary for candidates to carefully choose the exam center. because candidates are unable to alter the exam location once they have been selected. The two distinct exam sessions, NDA 1 and 2, are held in separate months of the year. Cadets are admitted to the National Defense Academy twice a year, in January and July. As a result, UPSC offers the exam across two sessions. There are differences in the eligibility criteria for NDA 1 and 2, including the age limit.

The cost of training for the cadet includes lodging, boarding, medical books, clothes, etc. The government is covering all of these expenses. Family pays for personal expenses during the training. Private costs often total no more than $3000 each month. The government offers financial aid to cadets for the duration of their training, even in situations where their parents are unable to cover their expenses. This amount is INR 1000 per month. Only those candidates whose parents make less than INR 21,000 per month are eligible for financial aid. Cadets are not eligible for financial aid if their parent makes more than INR 21,000 a month.

The NDA marking scheme is UPSC-mandated. The marking scheme indicates the points given for right answers and the points taken away for incorrect responses. In maths, 2.5 points are given for right answers and 0.83 points are taken away for incorrect answers. Four marks are given for right answers in the GAT, while 1.33 marks are subtracted for incorrect responses. Out of 900 marks, the written exam score is determined. The candidates' scores are determined by the examination authority using the marking methodology.
