No, the university does not offer direct admissions. NIMS University admission is both merit and entrance-based. Admission to most of the UG and PG courses is done through the relevant entrance exam. However, for certain courses, the university also accepts students on a merit basis. Students are offered a wide range of courses at UG, PG, diploma, certificate, and doctoral levels. Admission to MBA course is based on NIMSEE score. NIMSEE is a national level entrance exam which is conducted once a year and the mode of the entrance exam is offline i.e. pen and paper test. After completion of the selection rounds, the university releases a merit list to announce the names of the shortlisted candidates. The shortlisted aspirants are called for counselling and document verification. Aspirants need to pay a course fee to confirm their seat in the university.

Candidates must complete Class 12 in relevant subjects with at least 45% aggregate (40% aggregate for reserved category) to apply for the BTech course or passed Diploma exam with at least 45% aggregate (40% aggregate for reserved category) subject to vacancies in the first year, in case the vacancies at lateral entry are exhausted.
