Northern Illinois University has its main campus in DeKalb. Besides the main campus, the university is located in three sites; NIU Naperville, NIU Rockford Conference Center, and NIU Lorado Taft Field Campus. All the academic activities are done only on the main campus of the university. The remaining three campuses are used to host events and functions.

As per one of the former Northern Illinois University graduates; It is a fairly good University, its Education is one of the top schools in the States. I enjoyed my years there. I found many good friends above all many great professors.

There are loys of thing to do on weekends as a student at Northern Illinois University. Some of them are mentioned below:
- Get a job. I had a great job at The Hillside by the Egyptian Theatre. Also at 3 churches ($) every Sunday.
- Walk the campus and find new things.
- Pick up racquetball games at the Rec Center.
- Work out and stay healthy
- Day trips to nearby places: Rockford, Geneva, Kane County, etc.
- Start a club to play card/board games. Learn how to play bridge and chess.
