Yes, Northern Illinois University campus boasts 17 intercollegiate athletic teams that compete in the NCAA Division I. These teams are known as the Northern Illinois Huskies. In 2024,  thirty-one of the student-athletes of NIU earned the 1A FAR Academic Excellence Award. Yes, NIU offers scholarhips to international students. These students can be considered for a merit or housing scholarship. The scholarship application can be made via the Office of International admissions through MyScholarships application where these scholarships are listed.
