MSW was first launched in India as far back as 1936, at the Dorabji Tata School of Social Work now Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS). Over the decades, MSW has evolved into various avatars, just like its school of origin. The soft M.A. As Reverend Prasant, HoD of Rajagiri School of Social Work refers to it in JEST is currently taught in 300-odd colleges and universities in India. Some of these institutes call the degree MSW in others the nomenclature is M.A. (Social Work). Some schools like TISS offer a range of specializations. Apart from teaching and government services a graduate in English and Literature can go in reporting and Media, Content writing, Sales, Front Office, Advertising and Promotions, Public Relations, Customer Service and Airlines. A management degree after graduation will enhance scope and opportunities.
