Over 2,500 Universities are ranked by ARWU every year. In the ARWU ranking, The University of Edinburgh ranks at #40 in 2024, which is a decline by 2 spots form the year 2023, as this ranking was #38. Times Higher Education rankings are constantly declining since 2022.

The rankings have been provided by THE (Times Higher Education) since the year 2004. The creation of these rankings is done to know and evaluate the university's performance on the global stage and provide a comprehensive ranking report for the students to make an informed higher education decision.
