The minimum score obtained by the previous year's student was between 20 and 27 on the ACT and between 988 and 1220 on the SAT. Students must aim to score much more than the requirement to become eligible for admission.

The Capital Scholars (CAP) Honors Program Scholarships are offered for new first-year students. These scholarships are competitive and open to all students who are admitted to the CAP Honors program. It covers tuition fees up to 16 credit hours/semester and standard housing on campus. Each year up to five students are awarded the CAP Honors Scholarship by UIS.
