Applicants for undergraduate programs must possess a high school Diploma or certificate, or a certificate of completion for Grade 12. When the course begins, the applicant must be at least eighteen years old. Students must have completed high school and earned an undergraduate degree or its equivalent to be admitted to graduate school. The university website's course pages contain the criteria unique to each course. In addition to having competitive scores on English proficiency examinations, students must be proficient in both written and spoken English.

The University of Mannheim expects a GRE score, especially from MBA graduates. Students who took courses like a Master's in Management must score a minimum of 162 in quantitative reasoning and 151 in verbal reasoning. For a full-time MBA graduate, a GMAT score of 600 or equivalent GRE is required. Along with the GRE/ GMAT score, students must fulfill the basic eligibility by holding a bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
