Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) or Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM) or Masters in Business Administration (MBA) are both management courses at Masters level. Both the courses have a commercial orientation and its difficult to differentiate between the two. MBA and PGDM are both business orientated courses. The main aim of the courses is to equip a person who wants to move up in the hierarchy and enter in to the management field. While both the courses have same outcomes in terms of employment prospective, there are some subtle differences.
MBA vs PGDM: Course Orientation
Course orientation refers to the primary goal of a course. The term is often confused with course curriculum and methodology. MBA and PGDM being different courses fundamentally have diverging orientations. PGDM is a highly specialised course imparting knowledge very specific and to the point. The orientation of PGDM is driven primarily by the demands of the industry. This level of dynamism of the PGDM course makes it one of the most sought-after programmes in the country. MBA, on the other hand, suffer due to the laggardness in curriculum revitalization. This forces MBA students to focus more on the old curriculum for exam purposes.
