Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU), which is also known as South Gujarat University, was founded in 1965. The main reason for its establishment was to cater to the need for a separate university in South Gujarat. The university started its operations in 1966, and was officially incorporated on May 23, 1967. It is a UGC-recognized university and has been re-accredited by NAAC with Grade ‘B++’ in 2022.

VNSGU has been re-accredited by NAAC with Grade 'B++' in 2022 and is a UGC-recognised university. It is a semi-urban university, located in Surat with its campus spread over 210 acres of land. The university offers many courses at UG, PG, diploma, certificate, and doctoral levels and has 12 faculty departments including Arts, Commerce, Science, Management studies, and others.
