According to the Shiksha grading, the overall ranking of Virginia Commonwealth University is B+. A few majors, namely Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering have obtained the C+ subject rankings. Mechanical Engineering has secured the grade C+. Whereas, Business Economics, Computer Science, and Physics rank in the C category.

According to the US News Global Rankings 2023, Virginia Commonwealth University has a ranking of #439 and in 2022, it had a ranking of #417. Comparatively, West Virginia University has a ranking of #537 according to the US News Global Rankings 2023.
