The School of Distance Education, Bharathiar University offer UG and PG courses in distance mode. Its distance courses are approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Hence, the awarded degree is valid and accepted in India and abroad. Candidates seeking admission to any of these courses can visit the university's official website (sde.b-u.ac.in) to apply. The placement rate of UG (3-year) courses was the same in 2021 and 2022, however it dropped in 2023. Aspirants who have passed class 12 with required subjects from a recognised board are eligible for admission. The student must have studied the relevant subject such as Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics depending upon the applied BSc specialisation. Furthermore, the selection is based on the applicants scores in NCHMCT JEE/ JEE Main. Based on merit in the entrance exam, the university carries out the seat allotment process.

The minimum eligibility requirement for BA course admission is a class 12 or equivalent examination pass with a qualifying percentage. Candidates further must have been awarded the UG degree by a recognised board. The university also shortlists candidates for selection based on aggregate in Class 12/or equivalent exams. Further, aspirants must have the pass certificate at the time of form filling and admission for verification.

The eligibility criteria for MBA at Bharathiar University is that students need to have a 50% aggregate in total for their respective subjects in their bachelor's degree, completed from a recognised university ( 45% aggregate is required for the reserved category candidates).  When applying for admission and filling out the application form, students must have their mark sheets available. Bharathiar University admission to the PG course is through the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET). This state-level entrance exam is conducted by Anna University. These selected students further are required to go through the centralised counselling conducted by the Government College of Technology, Coimbatore.
