The Karnataka Examination Authority has been working with the e-governance department and the National Informatics Centre (NIC) to enable the online counseling process to be conducted for the first time from July 12 to July 18, 2012. It is said that the 128 GB server is being used for online counseling of KEA CET 2012, which can handle about 80,000 students at a time. The problem seems to be with the type of network being used for it. It is expected that technical issues will be sorted by today.
The officials also told TOI that the category-wise seat matrices for the 190 colleges came in very late. The team had to slog overnight to get the data uploaded in time for the process. Since too many students tried to access the website at the same time, it led to network congestion.
There are still six days more to go. The options can be entered till 5 pm on July 18, 2012. It is expected that traffic will lessen up as days pass by and hence, it will become easier for students to enter options.
Till now, the documents of about 57,000 students have been verified for the online counselling process. The number of engineering seats accessible through KEA CET 2012 is 49,214 while there are 2,222 seats open for medical.
Online counseling is getting trendy this year. Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has also proposed online counselling for over 2,000 MBBS and BDS seats in medical colleges in Delhi from this year. Those who qualify All India Undergraduate Entrance Examination would be eligible for it. The final decision is still awaited. See details
Let's hope that the engineering and medical aspirants do not have to face the same fate as students who gave the first computer-based CAT exam in 2009. Technical glitches and invigilators who did not know how to log on to the servers were just some of the problems faced by the CAT aspirants that year. At some places, the exams had to be cancelled due to server crashes. More about the first computer-based CAT exam
