Shiksha conducted a conversation with experts and faculty at Narayana Business School to understand the basic difference with MBA and PGDM programme. The experts focused on points related to the admission process, selection criteria, placement opportunities, fee and scholarships offered to explain the difference between the two.

Q: What is the difference between MBA and PGDM programme?
A: Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) or Masters in Business Administration (MBA) are both management courses at Master’s level. Both the courses have a commercial orientation and it’s difficult to differentiate between the two. Both these courses are business-orientated with an aim to equip a person who wants to move up in the hierarchy and enter into the management field.
While both the courses have the same outcomes in terms of employment prospective, there are some subtle differences.

Q: What is the eligibility criteria and selection process for admission in PGDM/MBA programme at Narayan Business School?
A: To be eligible for admission at NBS, applicants must
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in any discipline with at least 50% aggregate or equivalent CGPA (45% in case of candidates belonging to reserved categories).
- Have appeared for any recognised Management Entrance Examination such as CMAT, CAT, MAT, XAT and MAH CET or Narayana Business School Aptitude Test (NBSAT).
Eligible applicants then undergo a Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GDPI) round.
Overall weightage of various components for admission to the programme is:
- Score in Common Entrance Test: 50%
- Academic Performance & Prior Work Experience: 20%
- Group Discussion: 15%
- Personal Interview: 15%
Q: What is the total cost of programme? Do you offer Hostel facility? If yes, then what is the fee for the same?
A: The total cost of two-year programme is Rs 5.85 lakh. There is an additional cost of Rs 10,000 per month for students opting for accommodation facility on campus.
Additionally, there is an application fee of Rs 2,000 to be paid at the time of filling the form for admissions.
The institute also offers loan assistance to students. We have a dedicated team that takes care of the complete financing process.
Q: Is there any scholarship facility offered to students?
A: The scholarships are offered to students on the basis of merit scores.
Q: Which companies visit during the placement drive to the institute? Could you elaborate on the posts offered and package details?
A: We have a dedicated in-house placement cell offering complete placement assistance. Companies such as Oyo, LinkedIn, Berger Paints, Vodafone, Coca Cola, Bajaj Finserv, Decathalon, HDFC, Infoedge, Indiamart, Amazon, Pepsico, Citi Bank and Deloitte participate in placement process.
We give 100 per cent placement guarantee to students even before six months of programme completion. School has witnessed maximum package of Rs 16 lakh while Rs 6.5 lakh being the average and Rs 4.8 lakh being the lowest package.
