Maharashtra State Eligibility Test on Feb 17
The University of Pune (UoP) has announced the dates of the Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (SET) exam which is held for selection to the post of lecturers. To be conducted on a new pattern, the exam is scheduled to be held on February 17, 2013. The exam is held in Maharashtra and Goa and is taken by approx 40,000 aspirants every year.
Eligibility:
- Applicants must have Master's Degree or PG Diploma from an institution recognised by UGC.
- Candidates other than SC/ST category, who have secured atleast 55% marks (without gracing or rounding off) in Master's or equivalent examination, are eligible for this test. SC/ST/PH/VH (PH-Physically Handicapped. VH-Visually Handicapped i.e. Blind) category candidates who have secured atleast 50% marks (without gracing or rounding off) in Master's or equivalent examination are eligible for this test.
- Aspirants who are studying in the first year of two years Masters course or in first two semesters of a four semester’s course of Master's Degree are not eligible to appear for this test.
- Candidates who have appeared or will be appearing at the qualifying Masters degree (final year) examination and whose result is still awaited or candidates whose qualifying examinations have been delayed may also apply for this test. However, such candidates will be admitted for the SET Examination provisionally. Such candidates must complete their P.G. degree examination within two years from the date of SET result with required percentage of marks failing which they shall be treated as disqualified.
- Candidates with Post-graduate Diploma/Certificate(s), should in their own interest, ascertain the equivalence of their course(s) with Master's degree of recognized Indian Universities from Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi.(www.aiuweb.org)
- Candidates who have appeared OR will be appearing at the qualifying (final) master's degree examination and whose result is still awaited OR candidates whose examinations have been delayed may also apply for this Test. However, such candidates will be admitted provisionally and shall be considered eligible to apply for the SET Examination. Those candidate who cleared SET Examination will be issued the certificate after they have passed their Master's Degree examination or equivalent examination with atleast 55% marks (50% in case of SC/ST/PH/VH category candidates) and submit their P.G. Mark sheet within two years from the date of declaration of result of the SET examination.
- Candidates can appear for SET in the subject of their Post Graduation only.
- Candidates should note that their candidature is provisional. Their candidature will be deemed final upon verification of eligibility condition with reference to the documents enclosed with their application or as may be called for from time to time.
- There is no upper age limit to apply for SET.
- As per the UGC rules the candidates who have passed M.Sc (by Research) are not eligible to appear for the SET exam. .
- The SET agency will not issue any mark sheet to qualified/not qualified candidate. Also no revaluation of papers is allowed for SET examination. The SET Unit will issue certificate to qualifying candidates only.
- OBC/SBC/DT/NT (Non Creamy Layer) candidates must enclose attested copy of the caste certificate and the latest valid non-creamy layer certificate (for current financial year). The certificate must be in candidate’s own name only. OBC/SBC/DT/NT candidates will be considered as GENERAL category if they do not produce the OBC/SBC/DT/NT Caste Certificate and the latest non creamy layer certificate along with the application form.
Faculties covered under the exam:Arts, Science, Mental, Moral and Social Sciences, Commerce, Law, Management, Education, and Physical Education.
Exam pattern:
The exam comprises three papers - Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III and is held on the same day in two separate sessions.

Aspirants who acquire the minimum required marks in each paper, separately, as mentioned above, will be considered for final preparation of result.
However, the final qualifying criteria for eligibility for Lectureship shall be decided by the Moderation Committee before declaration of SET result.
Paper - I: This paper would assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate. Sixty (60) multiple choice questions of two marks each will be given, out of which the candidate would be required to answer any fifty (50). In the event of the candidate attempting more than fifty questions, the first fifty questions attempted by the candidate would be evaluated.
Paper - II: This paper shall consist of fifty (50) objective type compulsory questions based on the subject selected by the candidate. Each question will carry two marks.
Paper-III: It will consist of 75 objective type compulsory questions from the subject selected by the candidate. Each question will carry two marks. All questions of Paper- II and Paper-III will be compulsory, covering entire syllabus (including all electives, without options).
The syllabus of all the three papers would be the same.
