Management Quota in St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi
St. Xavier’s College follows all the reservation policies of the Government despite being a minority educational institution.
St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi is a minority educational institution affiliated with Ranchi University. The college was established in 1944 by the Ranchi Jesuits Society called (Society of Jesus) a Christian Religious order founded by St. Ignatius Loyola. The college was previously affiliated with Patna University and Bihar University simultaneously. When Ranchi University came into existence, the college got affiliated with Ranchi University. The college gained its autonomous stature in 2005 and received the 'College with Potential for Excellence' status in 2006. The college is located in Ranchi, Jharkhand and is accredited by NAAC with Grade A, which it has maintained since 2013.
The college offers 38 courses (UG and PG) across different disciplines of Arts, Science and Commerce. It includes UG courses (BA / BCom / BSc) which are of three years and PG courses (MA / MCA / MJMC) which are of two years. The list of courses also includes a number of Vocational, Professional and Management Programs. Admissions to all these courses are based on the marks obtained by the students in the entrance test conducted by the college. The application process is online and all the reservation criteria are followed as directed by the Jharkhand State Government.
Since St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi is not a private institution or deemed university, the college does not enjoy the rights of management quota admissions. A management quota is a mechanism authorised by the Government of a particular state to which the College/ University/ Institution belongs. Under the management quota, the private or deemed universities are provided rights to admit students directly to the institute. Management quota is restricted to private or deemed universities as they do not receive any grants from the government. The government, therefore, allows 15% of seats to private institutions to fill under the management quota and the fees under these seats are twice or thrice the actual fees.
The college, however, follows all the reservation policies of the Government despite being a minority educational institution. The following are the reservation policies for admission to St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi-
1) 27% of the total seats are reserved for OBC (Other Backward Classes)
2) 15% of the total seats are reserved for SC (Scheduled castes)
3) 7.5% of the total seats are reserved for ST (Scheduled Tribe)
4) 10% of the total seats are reserved for the EWS (Economically Weaker Sections) of the society
5) 5% of horizontal reservation for persons with Benchmark Disability.
All the applicants desiring reservation benefits must produce a valid certificate in the Government of India (GOI) prescribed format. Certificates should have issued only by the authorised officials at a given time and shall be positively submitted during the admission procedure. Also, if any candidate fails to produce the certificates on the day of admission, he/ she shall be considered under the unreserved category. The merit list for the Unreserved Category (UR) comprises all the applicants including the SC/ ST/ OBC- NCL/ EWS applicants irrespective of their category.
Besides this, 5% of total admissions shall also be filled by the sports quota reservation. The criteria for admission shall be uploaded by the college. Concessions are provided for the wards of Kashmiri Pandit/ Kashmiri Hindu Families living in the valley. There are other seats reserved under Defence Quota and for international applicants. 5% over and above the sanctioned seats are reserved under the Defence Quota. These include widows or wards of the defence personnel killed/ disabled in action. 15% over and above the sanctioned seats are reserved for international applicants and 5% of it are reserved for children of Indian Workers in the gulf.
