Hard and smart work together can help you achieve your goals, says Iyshita
I did not perform well in my Class 11 exams, however, the result became a turning point of my life. After scoring so less, I was scared but was also motivated to study hard. Following the instructions of my teachers, I started from the beginning. Least I could do every day was to revise what happened in the class on the same day. And on weekends again revise the syllabus covered in the whole week. It helped me retain the knowledge I gained during classes. Another thing I followed was to never miss any class because if you understand the concept once in the classroom, chances are it would stay in your mind for a longer time than studying yourself. I precisely remember that I was weak in Economics and Mathematics. But, I was persistent to practice hard. This was the reason, I could score 93 in Economics in Class 12. For Mathematics, there is nothing you can do except for more and more practice till you get it. I was good in the rest of the subjects.
Another thing that I learned during Class 12 was hard work is not always the key, sometimes you need to do smart work. For example, if there is a chapter that you find difficult, then prepare the rest of the curriculum so well that it can pay for it. After all the hard and smart work, I managed to score 81.72 per cent in Class 12. Now like all Delhites, I applied for Delhi University. But with this percentage I could not secure admission in any of the top-ranked colleges. So, I chose to appear for Common Entrance Tests (CET) at GGSIPU and I secured admission at JIMS Kalkaji - Jagannath International Management School in BCom (Hons).
Entrance exams are another level of stress which consists of qualitative and quantitative questions. I learned the tricks to attempt such questions in Class 10 so I was easily able to attempt most of the questions. I was confident so I did not choose to join any coaching classes for the preparation of the exam. I practiced previous year question papers that are easily available on Google and brought some sample papers book at home which really helped me a lot. I appeared for BJMC and BCom (Hons) CET exams. In parallel, I was also applying for other universities such as Amity University, Ansal University and The NorthCap University for the same courses but I wanted admission in Delhi based college only. So, I chose JIMS Kalkaji.
Another reason why I chose JIMS is not only academics but it also focuses on the personality development of the students. We have been through various activities such as group discussions, marketing fairs, quizzes, ad mad, article writing and what not. Anything that could help us sharpen our professional skills was there. Additionally, we had 75 per cent of mandatory attendance criteria. The college has provided us with opportunities such as industrial visits to Coca-Cola plant and Mother Dairy plant, SEBI and many other place so that we can experience practical exposure. Another thing that I liked the most was regular seminars arranged by college faculties. Listening to the stories of guest lecturers, helped us clarify our doubts and make a decision in the future.
I have also been an active member of many cultural and social events or societies at college. The college has changed me a lot as a person. I am more confident than ever. It helped me in developing my personality traits and gave me a lot of exposure and personal experience that would help in corporate life.
