No college students in Maharashtra to be promoted without exams: Uday Samant

Maharashtra Higher and Technical education minister Uday Samant have clarified that the state government will not promote any college students without exams, contrary to some rumours floating on this matter.

Maharashtra Higher and Technical education minister Uday Samant have clarified that no college students will be promoted without exams and the department is preparing to conduct the exams as soon as the lockdown is lifted.

The Minister has refuted the rumours floating on this matter and said that while the first and second year examinations will be conducted by the colleges, the third year exams will be conducted by the universities. None of the students will be passed based on their average marks. There might be some delay, but the exams will be conducted.

He appealed all the students to not believe in any floating rumours and wait for official directions.

When asked about any changes in the academic session, he said, the department is planning to go as per the schedule, despite the delay.  A committee has been formed to look at the various alternative strategies to conduct the university exams in the districts where the lockdown is lifted after April 14. Another idea is to formulate a common plan for all universities. The committee will present the report within 8 days.

In an interview with a media house, Samant said, that 75 percent of courses have been completed by the teachers in most of the colleges. The rest is being completed through online classes. The syllabus for students living in districts such as Gadchiroli and Chandrapur, where they do not get network and face internet connectivity issues, the syllabus has already been completed. Thus, their syllabus won’t remain incomplete.

"Based on the announcement made by the Centre on April 14, the final decision on re-opening of the universities will be taken. As many hostels in the state are currently been used for quarantine purposes, the institutions and the department will require a minimum of two weeks to regularize things and take further decisions," he said.

He also assured students that their academic year will not be wasted and the government will take full responsibility for this.
