Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be unveiling the life-size statue of Swami Vivekanandan at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) virtually, the institute said in a statement. The event is scheduled to be conducted on November 12 at 6.30 pm and will be preceded by a programme on Swami Vivekananda from 5:30 pm onwards. The statue has been installed at JNU campus with the support of its alumni.
In a statement, JNU Vice-chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar said: “Swami Vivekananda is one of the most beloved intellectuals and spiritual leaders India has been fortunate to produce...Swami Vivekananda always spoke for the education and well-being of Indians, especially of the less privileged and strongly celebrated the idea of India where the industry will meet the national pride.”
On November 2, JNU had begun its first phase of entries for final-year PhD students studying Science courses as day scholars. On October 21, the varsity had issued a set of guidelines on campus reopening, which mentioned that final-year PhD students, along with those who had received an extension to submit their thesis (known as a 9B extension), will be allowed to enter campus from November 16, the second phase of the plan which was applicable for hostellers.
The university had also said that the Central library, canteen, and dhabas will remain closed during the two phases of reopening, the first of which began on Monday. JNU like other educational institutes in the country was kept closed since mid-March due to a coronavirus outbreak in the country.
