Bihar Scholarship 2026-27 Latest Update

Bihar Post Matric Scholarship portal for BC and EBC students is open for 2026-27. The last date has been extended to September 30, 2026. SC and ST students should check the date on their own portal. On the Medhasoft portal, online registration for the 2026 Protsahan and Medhavriti schemes began on May 25, 2026. Registration is open for the 10th pass Protsahan scheme, the Kanya Utthan (+2) scheme and the Medhavriti scheme. The portal has also asked students to link Aadhaar with their bank account. Money will not be sent to accounts that are not linked with Aadhaar.

What is Bihar Scholarship 2026-27

Bihar Scholarship is the common name for the education schemes of the Government of Bihar. The Education Department runs most of them. Some are run by welfare departments. Each scheme is meant for a different group of students.

Some schemes pay fees and a monthly allowance. Some give a cash reward after a student passes an exam. The Student Credit Card gives a loan for higher studies. Students at colleges linked to Patna University, Lalit Narayan Mithila University and Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bihar University can check these schemes. The right scheme depends on their course and category.

Bihar Post Matric Scholarship 2026-27

Post Matric Scholarship is the main scheme for fee help after 10th Class. BC and EBC students apply on pmsonline.bihar.gov.in. SC and ST students apply on scstpmsonline.bihar.gov.in. The scheme pays tuition fees and other fees that the institute makes students pay. It also gives a monthly allowance for study costs.

Under the BC and EBC scheme, the family income limit is INR 3,00,000 per year. Students in 11th Class and 12th Class are also covered. Those preparing for the Bihar Board 12th exams get INR 210 per month if they live in a hostel. Students who live at home get INR 160 per month. Medhasoft Bihar Scholarship Schemes

The Education Department runs its cash reward schemes on the Medhasoft portal, medhasoft.bihar.gov.in. Each scheme has its own page with its own apply link.

Bihar 10th Pass Scholarship: Balak/Balika Protsahan Yojana

This scheme is for boys and girls who have passed 10th Class. Its full name is Mukhyamantri Balak/Balika (Madhyamik) Protsahan Yojana. Students register on Medhasoft. All details must match the board marksheet exactly. Students who passed the Bihar Board 10th exams should keep their marksheet ready before they start.

The process has four steps. First, the student applies online. Then the department and the bank check the details. After that, the student applies for the scholarship and does the final submit. Payment is made in the last step. The amount and division rules are given in the scheme notice on the portal.

Bihar 12th Pass Scholarship: Mukhyamantri Kanya Utthan Yojana

This scheme is for girls who have passed 12th Class. On the portal, it appears as Mukhyamantri Kanya Utthan Yojana (Mukhyamantri Balika Madhyamik +2 Protsahan Yojana). As per the Education Department notice, it is meant for unmarried girls.

During registration, the girl enters her roll number, marks, date of birth, bank details and Aadhaar number. Her name must be the same in the bank account, Aadhaar and marksheet. The bank account must be in her own name. It must be in a bank branch located in Bihar. After the final submit, no changes are allowed. The district office then checks the application. Bihar Graduation Scholarship for Girls

This part of Kanya Utthan Yojana is for girls who have completed graduation. On the portal, it is called Mukhyamantri Kanya (Snatak) Protsahan Yojana. Registration links are grouped by the year of the final result, such as results published between 2022 and 2025. Universities and departments check the forms through a separate login. Girls who graduated from Nalanda Open University, Veer Kunwar Singh University or Purnea University can apply. They should check if their result batch is listed.

Mukhyamantri Medhavriti Yojana for SC and ST Girls

This scheme is for SC and ST girls who have passed 12th Class. Only girls who passed in the first or second division are covered. The form is filled on the Medhasoft portal, in the same way as the other schemes.

Bihar Student Credit Card Scheme

The Bihar Student Credit Card Scheme gives an education loan for studies after 12th Class. The Education Department runs it through the Bihar State Education Finance Corporation. The loan now has no interest for any student.

Eligibility and Age Limit for Bihar Student Credit Card

A student must meet these conditions to apply.

• Lives in Bihar

• Passed 12th Class, or 10th Class for polytechnic courses

• Passed from a recognised school in Bihar

• Native Bihar students who studied in a border block of Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh or West Bengal can also apply

• Has taken admission, or has been selected for admission, in a recognised institute

• Is not more than 25 years old on the date of application

• Is not more than 30 years old for postgraduate courses that need graduation for entry

A student who already has a degree cannot take a loan for another degree at the same level. This rule does not apply to technical or management courses. So a B.Sc. graduate can still take a loan for an MBA or MCA. Students admitted to IIT Patna, AIIMS Patna or other recognised institutes can apply if they meet these conditions.

Bihar Student Credit Card Loan Amount and Living Allowance

The loan can go up to INR 4 lakh. Tuition and other institute fees go directly to the institute. For hostel students, the hostel amount also goes to the institute. Students who live outside the hostel get a fixed amount for living costs. This amount depends on the city.

Patna is a Class B city, while Delhi is a Class A city. The scheme covers 42 courses, from B.A. and B.Sc. to B.Tech, MBBS, MBA and polytechnic. Students of NIT Patna, Chanakya National Law University and Aryabhatta Knowledge University can use this loan. They should first check that their course is on the list.

Bihar Student Credit Card Repayment Rules

Students do not pay anything back while they study. Repayment starts one year after the course ends.

• Loan up to INR 2 lakh: pay back in a maximum of 84 monthly payments (7 years)

• Loan above INR 2 lakh: pay back in a maximum of 120 monthly payments (10 years)

• No job or income: repayment can be stopped for a while. The student must give a signed statement (affidavit) at the DRCC every June and December

• Death during the course or repayment: the rest of the loan does not have to be paid back

• Leaving the course midway: the rest of the loan is not given

The next part of the loan is released only after the student shows proof. This proof can be the exam result or promotion to the next class.

Mukhyamantri Civil Seva Protsahan Yojana

This scheme helps candidates who clear the prelims, which is the first stage of a competitive exam. For BC and EBC candidates, it gives INR 30,000 to INR 1,00,000. It covers the prelims of exams like UPSC, BPSC, NDA, SSC, Banking and Railways. Candidates who already have a government job cannot apply. Those who have taken similar help before also cannot apply. Many graduates of Magadh University, Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University and Central University of South Bihar prepare for these exams. They can check the rules on the portal.

How to Apply Online for Bihar Scholarship 2026-27

Each scheme has its own route. Follow the steps for the scheme you want.

Apply on PMS Online Bihar Portal

• Get an OTR number on the National Scholarship Portal.

• Open your category portal and register with the OTR number and Aadhaar details.

• Fill in personal, study, course and bank details.

• Upload each document as a PDF within 150 KB.

• Check that your bank account is linked with Aadhaar.

• Do the final submit. A form without final submit is not sent for checking.

Apply on Medhasoft Portal

• Visit medhasoft.bihar.gov.in and open your scheme page.

• Click "Students Click Here To Apply".

• Register with details exactly as printed on your board marksheet.

• Get your User ID and password on your registered mobile number and email.

• Wait while the department and the bank check your details.

• Log in again, complete the form and do the final submit.

Apply for Bihar Student Credit Card

• Apply online on the portal or the mobile app.

• Enter the OTP sent to your mobile number and email.

• Fill in the form. No documents are uploaded online.

• Download the PDF of the form.

• Visit the District Registration and Counselling Centre (DRCC) on the date sent by SMS and email.

• Carry the signed PDF, photos, copies signed by you and all original documents.

Documents Required for Bihar Scholarship

• Post Matric Scholarship: income certificate and caste certificate from the Revenue Officer, bonafide certificate from the institute, fee receipt

• Student Credit Card: Aadhaar and photos of the co-applicant (parent or guardian), admission proof, fee details from the institute and address proof

Bihar Scholarship Status Check and Payment Status

Status is checked on the same portal where the form was filled.

• Post Matric Scholarship: log in with your ID and password. The status shows which of the nine stages the form has reached. Payment is the last stage.

• Medhasoft schemes: use the "Get Application Status" button on the scheme page. You can also use "Check your name in the list" and "Payment Summary Report".

• Student Credit Card: updates come by SMS, email and on the portal at every stage.

Money under Post Matric and Medhasoft schemes is sent by DBT. If your account is not linked with Aadhaar, the money will not come. Visit your bank at once to get it linked.
