Bali Ram Bhagat College, Lalit Narayan Mithila University .
Placements: In B.A. English Honours, placements are almost non-existent. The college conducts some placement drives for other professional courses, but Arts students do not get companies coming specifically for them. No clear highest, lowest, or average package is recorded for our course. Internships are also not provided by the college, and students usually have to find opportunities outside on their own. Most students either prepare for government exams or higher studies.
Infrastructure: The college has very basic infrastructure for Arts courses. Classrooms are simple, and the library is available but not very resourceful for English Honours students. Wi-Fi and digital facilities are not dependable, and computers are outdated. Hostel facilities are average, with food in the mess being very simple and repetitive, medical help is available in case of emergencies but is not very advanced. Sports and extracurricular activities are limited, and students usually manage with what is provided.
Faculty: Teachers are knowledgeable, but the teaching style is traditional and mostly lecture-based, The course curriculum is standard, but does not directly make students industry-ready. Exams are conducted on time, and most of the questions come from previous years, which makes passing easier, the pass percentage is high, but the actual learning depends on the student’s own effort.
Other: I chose B.A. English Honours because I am interested in literature and wanted to improve my communication skills. The good thing about this course is that it gives enough free time to focus on personal studies, competitive exams, or other skills, however, the college does not provide much guidance beyond classroom teaching.

Q:   Is it good to pursue BA in English literature?
    A:
Hi Balaji, Once graduated in B. A. (Hons.) English literature, you could do your M.A. or an MBA. There are several higher study options for meritorious graduates in English language and literature, such as journalism and mass communication; management; tourism administration; law; international relations; linguistics; communication management; film editing and direction; visual communication; and library and information science and forms of creative arts like drama and cinema. You can explore the option of doing some specialised post graduate courses for which graduation is needed in the field of media, multimedia, public relations, foreign languages, teaching, social work, finance, retail, design, hospitality, stocks, aviation etc. based on your interests and strengths. If you have a flair for writing, have good communication skills and a reading habit, journalism or mass communication is a good choice. You could also opt for academic careers like teaching and research and particularly training. English language training is a big and growing sector in India with jobs freelance and full-time options as an English language trainer or a voice and accent trainer. English can also help in being a part of call centres, TV, Radio, reporting and also in the advertising industry. You can also work in an embassy. I hope it helps. Please feel free to revert. Wish you luck.
