Empowering the Future of Oncology: MGM School of Biomedical Sciences Launches Specialised M.Sc. Medical Physics

May 14, 2026: Because cancer cases are increasing worldwide, doctors need highly accurate tools to fight the disease. This is where medical physics comes in. By carefully managing radiation therapy, physicists ensure that cancer gets the exact dose while keeping the rest of the patient's body safe.
To meet this growing need, MGM School of Biomedical Sciences (MGMSBS), under MGM Institute of Health Sciences, Kamothe, Navi Mumbai, has started a new programme. The Department of Medical Physics at MGMSBS offers a specialised M.Sc. Medical Physics program aimed at preparing students for the increasing demand in India healthcare sector.
Medical Physics is a developing and specialised field. Only a few institutes in India and two institutes in Mumbai offer this course. This makes the program at MGM a valuable opportunity for students interested in cancer care and medical technology.
Medical physicists make sure radiation machines work perfectly. They set up radiotherapy units, working with advanced machines like Linear Accelerators, planning patient treatment, checking equipment performance, and maintaining radiation safety for both patients and staff.
The program is approved by the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB-BARC) and follows the guidelines of the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP). Students get hands-on training using advanced facilities such as Halcyon LINAC, PET-CT, and CT simulators. MGM Institute also has tie-ups with well-known hospitals, providing paid internship opportunities so that students can gain practical experience without difficulty in finding placements.
The Department of Medical Physics, MGM School of Biomedical Sciences, MGMIHS, successfully conducted a national-level Hands-on Training on Applied Medical Physics for Cancer Care, focusing on radiation therapy and diagnostic imaging. Sponsored by the Department of Health Research (DHR), Government of India, the program has received a grant of INR 32 lakhs to conduct this national training. It supports 10 students per year.
The program aimed to develop a skilled workforce for modern cancer care. Students get real-world practice planning treatments, measuring radiation doses, and checking equipment for safety. Because the program uses both online and in-person learning, it draws in various medical imaging professionals. Ultimately, it sharpens their clinical skills and helps schools and hospitals work closer together.

MGM School of Biomedical Sciences Hosts DHR-Funded Training on Nutritional Therapy for CKD

May 14, 2026: The Department of Clinical Nutrition, MGM School of Biomedical Sciences, MGM Institute of Health Sciences, Navi Mumbai, recently conducted the DHR-funded Hands-on Training Programme on Nutritional Therapy for Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Patients. The initiative included online lectures from senior and experienced nephrologists, clinicians, statisticians, and renal dietitians from top hospitals like MGM Hospital, Gleneagles Hospital, Apollo Hospitals, and TMH, Mumbai.
The training sessions covered topics like-

  • Dialysis and Transplantation
  • CKD Pathophysiology
  • Nutritional Management in CKD
  • Diabetic kidney disease
  • Micronutrient management
  • Gut microbiome
  • Electrolyte balance
  • Research methodology

The course included hands-on training at MGM Hospital. Students practised real-world skills like managing dialysis, planning patient diets, and counselling people with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Satisfied with faculty and teaching.

Placements: Placements are not guaranteed at all. Students have to find placements on their own. There is no assurance of placements. So students have to search for jobs while completing their studies. It makes it more challenging. Studying along with planning for the future becomes stressful.
