The National Institute of Bank Management (NIBM) is generally considered a Tier 2 business school in India. While it's a well-respected and specialised institution established by the Reserve Bank of India, its rankings and overall perception place it below the top-tier IIMs, ISB, and a few other elite B-schools.Here's why it's typically classified as Tier 2:NIRF Ranking: In the 2024 NIRF rankings for Management, NIBM was placed at 91. While it's a decent rank, it falls outside the typical range considered Tier 1 (usually the top 20-30).IIRF Ranking: While NIBM secured a better rank of 35 in the IIRF 2025 for Best B-Schools (Govt.)-Overall, different ranking methodologies can lead to variations.Placement Packages: While NIBM boasts good placement records with a decent average package, the highest packages might not reach the levels seen at Tier 1 institutes.Competition: Admission to Tier 1 institutes is generally more competitive with significantly higher cutoffs for entrance exams like CAT.Despite being Tier 2, NIBM is highly reputable for its focus on banking and finance and provides excellent career opportunities in these sectors.
