On Fees and Eligibility
Q:   What is the eligibility criteria for admission to PG Diploma at National Insurance Academy- NIA?
A:

Here are the prerequisites for admission to PGDM at NIA:

- Any graduate with not less than 50 percent marks.

- General, EWS, OBC-NC candidates have upper age limit of 28 while SC/ST/DA candidates’ age is capped at 30 as on July 1st, 2026.

- To get admitted into PGDM Course in NIA Pune, a candidate should score at least 50% in graduation.

- Selection process includes entrance examination such as CAT/XAT/or CMAT followed by GD / PI / and WAT.

Q:   I have got 64.6% in 10th, 72.6% in 12th, 58.6% in B.Com, 62% in M.Com and 88.36%ile in CMAT, can I get a call from NIA?
A:
Well, the weightage that they follow is as follows: Past academics - 20% CMAT/CAT - 50% GD/PI - 30% Also, students with relevant work experience will be given preference. So my opinion to you is to apply anyway. Because, your past academics show an average rating while you have a decent score in CMAT. So, I think your CMAT score will compensate for your academics. Apply if you are shortlisted, do well in the GD/PI session. All the best. http://www.pgdm.niapune.org.in/admissions/adminssion-procedure.
Q:   Why should I take insurance as a specialization in MBA? Why should I choose NIA?
A:
PGDM program in NIA aims at providing management education with focus on Insurance to the younger generation especially the ones who would like to make a mark in the sunrise industry of insurance. The PGDM programme is run from the same campus where middle and senior level executives from insurance industry come for executive development programmes. The student get a chance of observing the executives from a close quarters and also get the opportunity to attend various National and International seminars along with the executives and listen to industry veterans. All the best
Q:   I got 78.29 in CMAT. I have no job experience. I took a gap after BCom. What are the chances of admission to NIA?
A:
The expected CMAT cutoff percentile for NIA Pune is above 75. The weightage given to various components in selection are given below. 1. Past Academic Record : 20% 2. Performance in CAT / CMAT : 50 % 3. Performance in GD/PI : 30% 4. Relevant work Experience (appropriate weightage will be given to those candidates with relevant work experience at the time of interview) . So from above work experience have little bit advantage here, but if your academic and GD/PI performances are well than you can convert this. Good luck

Q:   What are the documents required during National Insurance Academy's PGDM admission process?
A:

National Insurance Academy (NIA) has issued a list of documents required during the PGDM admission online. When filling out the application form, the following documents should be ready for the applicant in the prescribed size and format:

  • Scorecard of CMAT/ CAT (whichever applicable).
  • Class 10 marksheet and certificate.
  • Class 12 marksheet and certificate.
  • Graduation marksheet of all years/semesters, including fail marksheet.
  • Degree certificate/ passing certificate/ provisional passing certificate issued by the institute.
Q:   How many questions should I solve to get a good score in CMAT?
A:

Since every section of CMAT has 20 questions in total, solving 15 to 18 questions in each section with 80 percent accuracy is considered a good attempt in CMAT, and it can ensure a good percentile in the exam. In the GK section, about 10 to 12 correct attempts will be enough. Out of 100 questions, candidates must try to solve about 70 to 75 questions to achieve a 99 percentile. However, candidates must aim to solve a higher number of questions with maximum accuracy and minimize negative marking. To be able to achieve this target, candidates have to prepare for the CMAT in a disciplined manner. Candidates must set aside about three months to complete the CMAT syllabus, as they have to study five subjects and their numerous topics. If they have appeared for CAT, XAT, and IIFT exams, then they can complete the CMAT syllabus in one month as well. However, it is advised that candidates spend at least three months on CMAT syllabus for complete preparation.

The course is very much in line with what is expected in the insurance sector, making students industry-ready. NIA has a trimester system, making studies a bit hectic. However, it's manageable with regular studies.
Other: I chose NIA because I wanted to enter the insurance sector, and NIA is the best gateway to enter the private insurance sector in India. There are several events throughout the year HR summit, insurance summit, and Manthan. The campus is in a very happening area of Pune, bringing insane proximity to all hotspots.
