Pearl Academy Mumbai MDes Eligibility & Highlights 2025

MDes at Pearl Academy Mumbai is a two-year course that shall develop advanced design skills in Fashion and Lifestyle Business Management specialisations. Admission is based on the Pearl Academy Entrance Exam, comprising a Design Aptitude Test (DAT), a General Proficiency Test (GPT), and a personal interview. The emphasis of this programme would, therefore, be application-orientated learning with industry relevance to prepare students for the new and changing dimensions of the design world.

Eligibility Criteria: The applicants who wish to join the MDes course at Pearl Academy Mumbai need to satisfy the following criteria: A candidate should be a graduate from a recognised university in any stream. Candidates should have secured a minimum of 50% in aggregate at their graduation. There is no upper age limit for applicants. A portfolio and Statement of Purpose will also be required. Selection includes a personal interview also to ensure that the candidate has a balance of creative and analytical skills required in the design profession.

Pearl Academy, first batch of M.Des Fashion Design, ongoing semester 2.

Placements: I have not reached that stage yet, just started my second semester. But I have heard from my seniors that based on your merit, placements are as promised. Roles offered could be design intern, stylist, merchandiser, textile designer, etc. 20.27 LPA is the highest offered package.

Infrastructure: The infrastructure is great. Everything is as shown during the campus tour. I did not opt for the hostel, so I don't know about that. There isn't a textile lab, but there are three computer labs, one of which has all MAC computers. There is consistent Wi-Fi for students. The library is accessible and has a good collection. Classrooms are decent. The campus is continuously air-conditioned.

Faculty: Faculty members are really great. All of them come from experience, and it can be seen in their work and teaching methods. The course curriculum is relevant as it not only educates us about textile and design but also helps us learn about starting a business. The semester exams are medium in difficulty. The passing marks for both written and practical exams are 40 out of 100.

Other: I am a part of the first batch that will be getting a degree upon completing the course. There are a few administrative issues due to the involvement of a university, but other than that, it's like what any other college offers. 75% attendance is mandatory, and the staff is supportive. Initially, I had opted for the M.Des Fashion Communication course. Two to three days after paying the first semester fees, I got a call from the admin saying this course has been canceled for this year and advised me to opt for another course. Although it's working out for me, I feel this is important information.

Placements: The placement percentage of the students on campus for this particular course is 90% and the students get placed in a not so good company but the average salary is less than the industry standard as it is 7,20,000 rupees for every year only and the companies are McKinsey & Company.

Infrastructure: When I talk about the facilities and the infrastructure it is almost at par with other big colleges in the country, this college has not had that many fancy things and neither anything less from them but yes the one thing that our college takes care of is food, The food served is best in quality.

Faculty: The curriculum covers a wide range of topics from design, arts, and media, and also the exams conducted are mostly practically based the lessons learned are directly applied in those exams and we are also given group projects regularly to keep us with the industry standard.

One can join the college. I am satisfied with it. The fee structure is high, but it is worthy.

Placements: Our seniors told us that the placement opportunities at Pearl are good, and I have seen many students get placed in good companies with good packages. The college takes the initiative to provide internships to students and helps them regarding the same. The industry exposure is great as many renowned people like Manish Malhotra, Shantanu, Nikhil and many others visit the college to give lectures. The college organises guest lectures which are very valuable.

Infrastructure: Mumbai campus has two buildings which are approximately opposite to each other. The campus is not huge but looks pretty good. The campus is centrally air-conditioned and well-designed. The college provides free Wi-Fi facility which is a positive point. The campus has talking or discussion areas. Dell and Mac labs are available.

Faculty: Pearl, Mumbai has awesome faculty members. Every teacher is helpful and tries to bring the best out of students by motivating and helping them throughout the way. The course curriculum is excellent. We have guest lectures from industry people. The industry exposure provided is great.

Other: Campus crowd is good. Extracurricular activities are excellent. Pearl has tie-ups with many industries, so we get to work with people like Manal and Rohit who run 'The Creative Indians' show on TLC etc.

Other: Pearl academy has the best students from all over the India who are very keen to study and enthusiast. Campus location and infrastructure are really exciting with the interiors doddles and painted by the students of pearl itself. Canteen facility is provided by the pearl with variety of foods in both veg and non-veg sections. Students enjoy eating in canteen as they can find all their needs at one place.
