Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) - Batch of 2026

Affordable, decent commerce hub.
Placements: I graduated from the 2023 to 2026 batch of B.Com at Prafulla Chandra College. Around 45-50% of students from our course were placed. The highest package offered was approximately 6 LPA, the lowest was about 2 LPA, and the average stood around 3.2 LPA. Top recruiters included TCS, Wipro, ICICI Bank, HDFC Life, and Genpact. Nearly 35% of students also secured internships at companies like Deloitte (off-campus), PwC, and local startups. The top roles offered were financial analyst, business development executive, and customer relationship manager. Placement opportunities are improving gradually through industry tie-ups and student effort.
Infrastructure: Prafulla Chandra College offers basic yet functional infrastructure for B.Com students, including well-ventilated classrooms, a library with commerce and finance books, and Wi-Fi access in some areas. While there are no dedicated computer labs for commerce, students have access to general labs when needed. The college does not have an in-house hostel, but many students arrange private accommodation nearby. There is a canteen offering decent, affordable food. Medical facilities are minimal, typically limited to first aid. Sports facilities are modest, with occasional access to nearby grounds for games like cricket and football during college events or fests.
Faculty: Teachers in the B.Com General course at Prafulla Chandra College are generally helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable, with most holding postgraduate degrees and some with NET/Ph.D. qualifications. The teaching quality is decent, focusing on conceptual clarity and exam preparation. The curriculum follows the University of Calcutta syllabus, which is somewhat theoretical and may require additional skill development to be fully industry-ready. Semester exams are moderate in difficulty; students who attend classes regularly and study sincerely can manage well. The pass percentage is usually above 85%, with most students completing the course within the prescribed duration.
Other: I was part of the 2023 to 2026 B.Com General batch at Prafulla Chandra College. I chose this course to build a foundation in accounting, finance, and business. The best aspects of the course include its broad curriculum, affordable fees, and flexibility for pursuing professional courses like CA or MBA. However, I wish there were more focus on practical learning, internships, and industry exposure. The campus crowd is friendly and diverse, with decent connectivity and a safe surrounding area. While major fests are limited, occasional events and cultural programs are held. The college also offers government scholarships and encourages activities.

It is a great campus life, but it needs updating.
Placements: 75% of students from my course have been recently placed. I think the highest package offered is 4-5 LPA. Top recruiting companies are KPMG, HDFC, ICICI, PwC, etc. Over 70% of students get internships, with companies also Teah Mahindra, HDFC, Axis Bank, etc. Top roles offered are chartered accountant, investment banker, financial analyst, and marketing.
Infrastructure: The course/department has access to well-equipped classrooms with Wi-Fi and projectors, computer labs with ample systems, a library, and tutorial rooms for faculty-student interaction. Wi-Fi is available throughout the campus, including labs and the library. Hostel facilities, food quality, medical services, and sports/games offerings vary widely by institution. Some colleges provide excellent infrastructure, well-maintained labs and classrooms, and a variety of food options in their canteens and messes.
Faculty: In general, the quality of teaching, teacher qualifications, and curriculum relevance can vary. Some teachers may be very helpful and knowledgeable, while others may not be as effective. The curriculum relevance and ability to prepare students for the industry also depend on the specific course and institution. Semester exams can range in difficulty, and the pass percentage can vary.
Other: I am a student from the 2023-2026 Commerce batch. I chose this course because of my interest in business, finance, and economics, aiming to build a strong foundation for a corporate or entrepreneurial career. The best aspects include practical subjects like accounting, marketing, and business law. However, the course could improve with more industry exposure and skill-based workshops. The campus hosts vibrant fests and events, with a friendly and diverse crowd. It's well-connected and located in a lively area with good surroundings. Scholarships are available for meritorious students, and various extracurricular activities and clubs help in overall personality development.

Dissatisfied because of placement but learned from the experience.
Placements: This college under Calcutta University is worse, just like other colleges, because it doesn't guarantee you any kind of placement, whether you score more than 8 SGPA or less. Out of 100 students, only five get a placement, which is below 10 LPA.
Infrastructure: Though placements are not good in this college, the infrastructure, libraries, and classrooms are well-maintained by faculty members of the college. They even hold fests for newcomers and ensure that canteen facilities, sports, and games are provided.
Faculty: Teachers are very qualified and knowledgeable to teach the subject of commerce, and students are eager to learn because of the college union, who drag the students out of classrooms for rallies, disturbing the decorum. The college curriculum is so good that students are capable enough to find a job. Normally, the pass percentage of students at Prafulla Chandra College is 50%.
Other: I choose the course because I am interested in the topic of accounting and finance, and there is nothing else I could add to improve the course, except the fact that it must have some practical knowledge. (It does have, but not enough)

Good classrooms. Placement is not good. The college is not for hard-studying students.
Placements: Our college placement program is not that good so very few percentages of students get placement. As our college placement program is not that good, it's hard to say what the average package offered in our course is. It is an average 10000 to 25000 starting package. There is no recruiting company involved with our college normally. Students can get an internship if they enroll in external courses. As I said, there are no companies involved with our college, so there are no top roles offered.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our college is pretty good. In big classrooms, there are various books, articles and journals available for students; they can easily access them as they want or as they need. Our college is a commerce and arts-based college so there are no labs available in the college. But there are enough things and facilities available for college students. Our college does not have a hostel.
Faculty: The helpfulness varies from teacher to teacher; some are very helpful and kind, while others are not. Teaching quality also depends on the teacher; some can explain things easily for students to understand and some don't even come to classes. As for the curriculum, it is only theory-based and kind of boarding so students sometimes skip classes and it also doesn't make anyone industry-ready. Rather than the teaching quality, the exams are pretty tough and hard to crack because our college is under Calcutta University so the exams are pretty tough.
Other: I was a commerce student; that's why I chose to do B.Com. (H) in the first place. For the improvement of the course, colleges and teachers need to focus on making students industry ready but the colleges only focus on irrelevant topics like studying old lawns and stuff. As for events, we got freshmen for the new students of our college and also, our college celebrates the Saraswati puja. There is no scholarship that our college provides. And for this activity, our college has an inter-college competition.

Good placements in 2022 and really good infrastructure.
Placements: There is a good percentage of placements that are given from my college. The highest salary offered is about 9 Lacs per annum and the lowest is 4 Lacs per annum. The top recruiting companies are wipro, private and government banks, etc. All the students got placed from our college. Role offered is of tax consultant.
Infrastructure: We don't have Wi-Fi in our college or rather labs for our particular course but there are spacious and airy classrooms with smart boards and rooms which are well maintained and cleaned. We also have a good library with a vast variety of books. The canteen is also a good one.
Faculty: The teachers are helpful, qualified and knowledgeable. The teaching quality is great. The course is very curriculum relevant. It really makes the students industry ready. The difficulty level of the semester exams is merely difficult but also challenging.

Good budget friendly commerce college.
Placements: I am a B.Com honors student at Prafulla Chandra College at Gariahat. In terms of placement the college offers basic support. But most students looks for jobs or internships on their own. Around 39%-40% of students from our course get placed through college initiatives.
Infrastructure: The college has a decent infrastructure for the commerce department. We have access to a great library, classrooms, and canteen. Though the college does not have a dedicated hostel, the nearby PG accommodation is manageable. The canteen offers decent foods which are decent hygienic.
Faculty: Faculty members at Prafulla Chandra College are quite helpful. Most professors have in-depth knowledge about their subjects and teach in a simple understandable language. Exams are conducted semester-wise and are manageable if you keep up with your studies.
Other: I chose B.Com honors because it provides a strong base in finance, accounting, and business. Perfect for pursuing professional courses like CA and MBA.
