Challenges of AI in Design

1. Fear of Replacement: Because of AI, there is constant fear of replacement. Designers worry that AI may replace them. AI is able to do work faster and requires less time, which is leading to a reduction in jobs for humans.

2. Bias and Limitation: As AI is trained by humans, it reflects the biases present in the training data. So we can say that AI is not bias-free and cannot be trusted completely. Designers must be aware while using it.

3. Intellectual Property Issues: As AI takes data from various sources for creating and giving ideas, the ownership of the AI-generated content and work is not clear.

4. Skill Gap: As there are N numbers of AI tools in the market, and to be dynamic, designers should know these tools. If designers are unable to learn these tools, their skills can become obsolete and they can be out of the market.

5. Costly: Use of AI is costly as it requires training and software. Small designers and organisations, or local designers, cannot use AI as compared to big business houses, which can result in the closure of small businesses.

Future of AI in Design

All the scenarios are pointing towards collaboration of humans and AI instead of competing with AI. Designers can act as the face and perform the task of storyteller and creative strategist, while AI can take up the technical tasks, forecasting, prototyping, etc. AI and humans can play a very pivotal role in creating sustainable design, which will minimize waste and optimize resources.

We can conclude by saying that AI is here not to replace designers but to give them more power. The design industry can reach new heights by combining the human imagination and AI speed and efficiency.
