Q. How do you feel about being the AIIMS MBBS Topper? Did you expect to be one of the toppers of the exams?

A.

It is a moment of surprise for both me and my parents. We expected a good score but falling in the list of Top 3 is something exceptional for us, that has happened.

Q. Which board have you studies under and from which school?

A.

I have completed my schooling from a CBSE board school in Kolkata, named South Point High School.

Q. How long have you been preparing? What was your study plan like for AIIMS MBBS 2017? What is the minimum time frame needed to prepare for AIIMS MBBS?

A.

I commenced with the preparation for AIIMS MBBS from December 2016. Since I have always been a science fanatic, the base for all the subject was strong enough to take the exam. I was aiming to crack JEE Advanced and pursue BTech in Computer Science from any of the IITs. This made my base strong for Physics and Chemistry but Biology was something to deal with. I decided to refer NCERT books to cover up the topics in biology.

Apart from this, I also took as many mocks and solve sample papers to have a thorough preparation of all the subjects.

There is nothing called as a minimum of maximum time frame. It all depends on the capability of the candidate to thorough the subjects.

Q. How was the preparation for AIIMS MBBS different from other medical entrance exams?

A.

AIIMS MBBS is different because the difficulty level of questions in Physics and Chemistry is higher than rest of the medical entrances. In addition to this, GK is also involved in this exam. So along with PCB, the candidate’s General knowledge should be strong enough to crack the exam with a good percentile and rank.

Q. What did you do to improve your weak areas?

A.

As I told earlier, IIT was my target whilst appearing 12th boards, this made me strong in Physics and Chemistry but the topics in Biology was my weak area. Initially, I faced difficulty in understanding the concepts of the subject, but with the help of my teachers at the coaching institute, I overcame the weak areas and needless to say that I have made it to the top 3 in AIIMS MBBS 2017.

Q. Have you taken any other exams besides AIIMS MBBS?

A.

Yes, I appeared for JEE Mains and JEE Advanced in 2016. My Rank in JEE Advanced 2016 was 93. After quitting IIT Delhi, I appeared for NEET and JIMPER. I managed to bag an AIR 214 in JIPMER 2017 and am now waiting for the NEET 2017 result.

Q. What us your exact score?

A.

I scored 99.999306 percentile in AIIMS MBBS 2017.

Q. Did you take any coaching? From where? Do you think coaching is required to crack AIIMS MBBS

A.

Yes, I have been a part of two coaching institutes - Aakash, for classroom coaching and Allen Kota, for distance learning.

Answering if coaching is important, I would rather say that coaching is necessary for correct guidance. Once can self-study for the subjects but cannot prepare as per the actual exam pattern. That is what coaching institutes are for. They tend to make you prepare as per the exam pattern and its level of difficulty. The teachers tend to make use solve previous year papers, sample papers and take as many mocks as possible.

Q. Did you take up mock tests and sample papers? Do you think practicing previous year question papers help and how?

A.

Yes, I took a number of mocks and solves sample papers. My teachers always advised me to solve sample papers and previous year papers. This is helpful to eliminate any kind of surprises at the time of writing the exam.

I almost solved all the PYPs of last 30 years to analyze the exam pattern. This eventually helped me in time management strategy to write the exam.

Q. Any important books that you would like to suggest for future aspirants?

A.

I would say that NCERT is the best book to prepare. Try to prepare from the notes that the coaching institutes provide because according to me, they are of great help. Other than these, there are various standardized books of famous writers like IRODOV.

Q. Which are the top medical institutes you are vying for?

A.

I am vying for AIIMS Delhi and it is my dream institute to pursue MBBS from.

Q. Any tips for aspirants that would be appearing for the exam next year?

A.

Tips that I would suggest includes working hard, keeping no backlogs for doubts and having a thorough knowledge of all the subjects. Try not to miss any of the topics because you never know what appears as a question in the exam.

To make an addition I would say, enroll yourself in a good coaching institute.

Q. Which specialization do you wish to pursue at the UG and PG level?

A.

I seriously have not yet decided that which specialization I will pursue with.

Q. What were your marks in 12th boards and how did it help in the preparation for AIIMS MBBS?

A.

I scored an average of 95.8% in 12th board exams. 12th board were of help as I am from a CBSE board school. CBSE board’s curriculum is all about NCERT and so is AIIMS MBBS.

Q. Why do you want to study medical? When did you decide to study medical?

A.

I felt an inclination towards human biology whilst pursuing BTech in Computer Science from IIT Delhi. That is when I decided to quit and come back to hometown. After which I commenced with my preparation to crack AIIMS MBBS and get into AIIMS Delhi.

Q. Tell us about your family background?

A.

Well, both of my parents are teachers in a government high school. I am the only child to them.

Q. Any future plans?

A.

I have no future plans as such. For now, I only aspire to become a doctor.
