BE/BTech / Bachelor
Bachelor programmes for Science students include:
- Pure science programmes, such as Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Physics;
- Applied sciences such as Agriculture & Forestry; Information Technology (IT), VLSI, Biotechnology, and Nanotechnology;
- Traditional engineering disciplines such as Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, and Textile Engineering; and
- Specialised engineering disciplines such as Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Avionics Engineering, Communications Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Marine Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Signal Processing, Solar & Alternative Engineering, and Wireless Communication.
The UG programmes in engineering and technology offer degree of BE or B.Tech.
Eligibility
For students who appear for Class 12 with Science as their stream, the next step is to opt for Bachelor programmes in Science. Except for those who choose medical or paramedical fields career, other students go for further studies in their chosen subject. The students from PCM (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) stream in Class 12 can also opt for engineering or technology programmes that can earn them BE or B.Tech degrees.
For admission to BE/B.Tech programmes, students will have to appear for the engineering entrance exams. From 2013, Class 12 scores will also have equal weightage in the merit list and thus, students need to pay attention there too. For Bachelor programmes in Science, reputed universities in India release their cut-off lists which are based on Class 12 marks of applicants.
Career Prospects
Science is a stream which stimulates inquisitiveness and methodical way of working in students. Hence, science graduates can opt for careers in virtually any field - from sales & marketing to back-end jobs in offices. They can go for careers in civil services, defense services, and manufacturing industries.
Graduates of theoretical or academic-oriented programmes can lead to careers in academic or research work; and graduates of applied sciences programmes, which offer hands-on training on applying scientific concepts to solve challenges and problems, can lead directly to careers in related industries.
BE or BTech programmes are for those who want to make a career in engineering or technical fields.
