Choosing between JEE Main 2015 online and offline exam mode
The registration process for JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) Main 2015 commenced on November 7 and will continue till December 18, 2015.
One of the most common hitches that a lot of students face while registering for this exam is to choose between both the modes – online and offline. Infact, a bunch of students that shiksha.com spoke to still face the same issue.
As a matter of fact, when JEE Main first made its debut in the year 2013, not every student taking the exam was comfortable with the online mode. However, on the other hand, there were students who were quite happy about the fact that taking the exam online would expose them to a completely new experience.
Everything has its own pros and cons and ,likewise, both online and offline mode too have their own merits and demerits. Thus, to help you choose the better of the two, we list down the pros and cons of both the modes.
JEE Main Online:
| Pros |
Cons |
| Aspirants can choose their day and timings of the exam according to their convenience and as per the slots available. |
It can be risky for first timers to choose this mode over the traditional pen and paper mode. |
| The answers marked can be changed later. |
There are chances of glitches, connectivity issue or other unexpected problems that just might bring the exam to a halt. |
| Aspirants can practice for the exam beforehand with online practice sheets. |
The lack of proper training to take the online mode too is one of the demerits of the online mode. However, this might not be true for urban students but for students hailing from rural areas. |
| Aspirants need to follow a question order that appears on the screen. They do not have the option to have a glance at the full paper. |
|
| Not enough time to revise the answers or attempt a question twice to recheck the answers. |
|
| Concentrating on the computer screen for 3 hours continuously can be problematic. Also the chances of copying down wrong figures are quite high. |
JEE Main Offline:
| Pros |
Cons |
| Students can take a glance at the full paper and then start answering the questions from any section they like. There is no need to follow the order like the online mode. |
The answers once marked cannot be changed. |
| Low risk of technical glitches(if any). Sometimes this fear itself spoils the performance. |
Psychological pressure/ fear of exam due to huge crowd of participants. |
| Pen and paper based exam have been a traditional practice amongst students of the country. Thus, be it students from the metro cities or rural areas, all are prepared to take the exam. |
The offline mode can be time consuming. |
| Enough time to revise and recheck answers. |
According to Ramesh Batlish, Center head, FIITJEE, Noida, both the exams are equally suitable. However, one should go for the mode he/she is most comfortable with. He further says, “With proper training one can comfortably go for the Online Mode. For those students belonging to cities where there is no Online Centre can opt for Offline Mode”.
It also is true that if a person has the knowledge and speed required to take this exam then choosing the mode of examination will not be a problem at all.
So, read, understand, think and then choose.
