How to crack JEE Advanced 2014: Last three month strategy
This year the JEE (Advanced) is scheduled to be held on May 25, 2014 while the JEE (Main) - Offline will be held on April 6, 2014. Approximately 14 lakh students are expected to appear for the JEE-Main 2014 and only 1.5 lakh students from all categories would be lucky enough to take the JEE(Advanced) this year. Those who also qualify to be in the top 20 percentile of their respective class XII boards and clear the JEE (Advanced) will make it to the final merit list of the IITs.
For cracking JEE-Advanced 2014 students must focus on three things while preparing for JEE (Advanced):
- Building the Concepts
- Proper Applications of Concepts
- Practice Of JEE Level Problems
A serious aspirant ideally must have completed the syllabus by now. The following points would however count.
i)Time devoted to each subject (Physics, Chemistry, and Maths)
All the three subjects are important; the student must devote equal time for all subjects. Major focus must be on the topics of Class XII boards and then revision of class XI topics must follow.
ii)Time devoted to the regular classes at school
Majority of the topics of JEE are also covered in Boards, hence it is recommended that one
must prepare for both the exams simultaneously. The student must practice all NCERT problems, while brushing up JEE chapters.
iii)When to start taking the part or full length tests and how to go about analyzing the results
Once the student has completed the syllabi of Class XII, he/she can start taking mock JEE (Main) &JEE(Advanced). These tests can be taken as Part Syllabi or Full Syllabi. The part tests cover topics of class XI & Class XII separately whereas Full syllabi tests are based on the complete XI & XII syllabi. For better preparation one can join a test series program. These tests not only check the level of preparation of individuals for JEE but also makes them aware about their command over the subject, speed in writing the exam, topics and strong & weak areas.
iv)Expert tips on how to prepare
Time management
In-time preparation and dealing with the study pressure with proper planning is most important.
- Divide these crucial 3 months aptly in the three subjects.
- Prepare the chapter-wise, topic-wise revision schedule.
- Create short notes, list all formulae and points to remember .This will help in quick revision, before the examination.
Correct Methodology
The correct approach for those appearing for the first time or second (last) time is to stick to one source and not to refer to multitude of books/ study material available in the market. For example it is sufficient to go through study-packages, IIT-JEE archives, review-packages, work-books, Grand Masters Package/ Equivalent, AITS/AIITS series etc, supplied by FIITJEE if the student is enrolled in any of its programmes. To reap benefits, the students, throughout preparation period, should remain focused with a positive attitude to study with utmost concentration.
Strategy for attempting the questions
- Positive attitude & harnessing the examination temperament built during preparation
- Read & follow all the instructions given in the question-papers very carefully
- Plan your time, keeping an extra time in hand for revision
- Prioritize after a quick glance and start answering with the question you know best & move progressively to the ones you find difficult after attempting the complete paper.
- You must attempt questions carrying no negative marks
- Don’t be nervous if you find the paper tough since it is the Relative Performance that counts. Hence put your best analytical mind to work, it will take you ahead
