Both consisted of three separate sections on Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. The questions were of objective type (multiple choice) designed to test comprehension, reasoning and analytical ability of candidates. There were questions with Negative marking .The candidate could opt for the question paper in English or Hindi.
Take a look at the list of popular colleges accepting JEE Advanced here!
Paper-I Analysis:
The question Paper was of 3 Hrs- 9:00 am-12:00 noon. Full marks of paper-1 was 264. The Question paper had 32 pages (including both sides). The Paper had three parts: Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics. In each part there were three Sections:
- Sec-I had 8 questions with Integer Type answers (ranging from 0 to 9)- marking scheme for this section was was+4 for correct answer and 0 for all other cases.
- Sec-II had 10 Multiple choice questions with one or more than one correct option – marking scheme for this section was + 4 for correct answer, 0 if not attempted and -2 in all other cases.
- Sec-III had 2 “Match the Following” questions, where the entries in Column I had to be matched with the entries in Column II- marking scheme for this section was: for each entry in column 1, +2 for the correct answer,0 if not attempted and -1 in all other cases.
After a quick glance it was observed that in Mathematics- 70 % questions were from class XII & 30 % from Class XI of CBSE Board. More weightage was given to chapters in Calculus. This was similar to last year.
In Physics 55 % questions were from class XII & 45 % from Class XI of CBSE Board. Almost questions were asked from all chapters with more weightage to Modern Physics.
In Chemistry 50 % questions were from class XII & 50 % from Class XI of CBSE Board. There were 7 questions each from Organic & Physical Chemistry and 6 in Inorganic Chemistry.
Due to Negative marking in Paper-1 unlike last year in MCQ and Match the Following students found the paper lengthy.
Paper- 2 Analysis:
The question Paper was of 3 Hrs- 2:00 pm-5:00 pm. Full marks of paper-2 was 240.
- Sec-II had 8 Multiple choice questions with one or more than one correct option – marking scheme for this section was + 4 for correct answer, 0 if not attempted and -2 in all other cases.
- Sec-III had 2 “Paragraph Type” questions, where each paragraph describes an experiment or a problem. Two Multiple choice questions were asked based on the paragraph with one or more than one option correct in each question. Marking scheme was +4 for the correct answer, 0 if not attempted and -2 in all other cases.
After a quick glance it was observed that in Mathematics- 65 % questions were from class XII & 35 % from Class XI of CBSE Board. In this paper also more weightage was given to chapters in Calculus – Limits, Continuity & Differentiability, Application of Derivatives & Definite Integral.
In Physics 55 % questions were from class XII & 45 % from Class XI of CBSE Board. Questions were asked from almost all chapters with more weightage to Ray Optics, Modern Physics, Electrostatics & Magnetism. Questions from Error & Dimensional Analysis was also included.
Electromagnetic Induction was excluded from both Paper-1 & Paper-2.
In Chemistry 65% questions were from class XII & 35 % from Class XI of CBSE Board. There were 7 questions each from Organic & Inorganic Chemistry and 6 in Physical Chemistry.
There was an ORS (Optical Response Sheet) with original on Top and carbon copy below it. Students were allowed to take away the carbon copy. The initial response of students was mixed. The detailed analysis is yet to be done at faculty end.
Overall both papers were of Good level and students found them lengthy due to negative marking in both papers.
