JEE Main 2014: Student reaction on computer based test
The computer based test of JEE Main 2014 commenced today, on April 9, 2014. The exam will be conducted on three more days i.e. April 11, 12 and 19, 2014.
Similar to the offline exam, the online paper was divided into three sections – Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Each question carried four marks and for every incorrect answer, one mark was deducted.
Held in two slots, the first slot for B. Tech courses (Paper 1) began at 9:30 am sharp and concluded around 12:30 pm, while the second slot for B. Arch courses (Paper 2) was conducted from 2pm to 5 pm.
To know how exactly was the first day of the JEE Main 2014 online paper, shiksha.com caught up with students who took the exam today. According to most of the students shiksha.com spoke to, the physics section was a bit tough and tricky.
According to Pritish, a resident of Delhi, the exam was easy only for aspirants who were well prepared for the exam. He said, “The Physics section was quite tough. I couldn’t solve questions from the oscillations chapter. The chemistry section was moderate – neither easy and nor tough and it has just basic questions as expected. Numericals were easy and Maths too was average. Overall the paper was definitely tough. However, there were three questions in Physics from oscillations and I think this topic was given more weightage”
On asking about the number of questions he attempted, he said, “I didn’t really attempt the questions uniformly in each section. In physics, I attempted 7 questions, in Maths 11 and Chemistry 23.”
Another student, Mayank(name changed) from Apeejay School, Noida sounded a bit disappointed after taking the exam. He said, “My paper wasn’t so good. Not good actually. The only thing I could do was in Maths and Chemistry. I couldn’t attempt around 20 questions in Physics as I spent most of my time solving Maths. It was very lengthy. Chemistry was the last thing I attempted.
Commenting on the difficulty level of the online exam, he said, “I could solve just 5 questions in Physics. However in Maths, a lot of my answers weren’t matching, so I couldn’t take the risk of negative marking. Thus, couldn’t solve those too. As for surprises in the paper is concerned, Maths was easy and this was not expected at all. Maths is always supposed to be tough and it wasn’t.”
Nitin , who took a second attempt at the exam, said, “The paper was difficult, especially the physics paper. I left a lot of questions in this section. I solved around 15-18 questions each in Maths and Chemistry. The questions asked were very deep and I hadn’t solved any such questions earlier. I wasn’t used to it. “
He further added, “Actually, my aim is to crack UPTU-SEE. I just wanted to check where I stand and that’s why appeared for JEE Mains.”
Talking about his chances of clearing the exam, Pritish shared, “Haha. It all depends on how the other students perform. You know the top 20 percentile thing.
