JEE Main 2015: Around 13 lakh students take the JEE Main 2015 examination today from over 1600 centres in more than 80 cities in India & abroad. Aspirants had the choice of appearing in any one of the two types of papers or both. Paper – I is for B.E / B.Tech courses while Paper – II is for B.Arch / B.Planning. Paper – I on 4th April 2015 is off-line mode and on 10th & 11th April 2015 is online. Paper – II is only off-line on 4th April 2015.

The level of JEE Main 2015 was overall easy compared to last year. The maths paper was the easiest, followed by Chemistry and then Physics. There were questions of Match the following type as well in Physics & Chemistry. The highlight of this year’s examination was that students, this time was not given a copy of OMR unlike last year.

Going by the trend, JEE Main 2015 cut off is expected around 115 marks for gen category out of 360 marks.

The Question Paper – I for B.E. / B.Tech courses in 2015 was similar to pattern in the past years 2011 to 2014. The paper had objective type questions Multiple Choice with one out of four correct with equal weightage to Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics. There were 30 Questions each in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics with marking scheme (+4, -1) i.e. 4 marks for right answer & 1 mark deducted for a wrong answer. The paper is balanced and is set from CBSE syllabus of Class XI & XII. However, as expected most of the questions are conceptual with some needing analytical skills.

As in 2014, few questions in Physics were tricky & challenging. Overall difficulty level for Chemistry & Mathematics can prima-facie be labelled between easy to moderate and for Physics moderate. For a student who has been focussed & serious all through the two years in improving speed & accuracy by taking regular quizzes & mock tests on JEEM pattern, must have done reasonably well. It is always relative performance, which matters in such highly competitive examinations. In terms of errors & ambiguity, it will be possible to say something only after fully solving the paper. Cut-offs are expected to be little higher than in last few years.

Almost 200+ students have opted for OFFLINE Paper and the remaining will take the online paper on 10th April, 2015.

Admission in NIT’s / IIIT’s / DTU / CFTI’s & other allied institutes will be based on overall merit list comprising of 60% of JEE Main marks & 40% of normalised Board marks.

Top 1,50,000 candidates of JEE Main will be eligible to appear in JEE Advanced on 24th May 2015 to fight for one of 10000  seats in Prestigious IIT’s / ISM Dhanbad.
