Marks in your Engineering does not promise you an employment
Engineering is one of the promising fields for education and for employment also. Many students after their 10+2 opt a degree course in engineering. There are various field of specialization in engineering and students go for the one which gives most promising career opportunities. After the completion of the degree course it is the major concern of every aspiring candidate to get a good placement.
Most of the companies today visit campuses for their recruitments. They visit campuses to recruit even for the junior level and for the
senior level also. They make leverage offers to students. In present scenario, the companies are ready to pay hefty amount to most desirable candidate. But this makes the situation more competitive and grim for all the students. All the big and small companies want to hire the cream or the top students of the institute, which is not really a very good situation for other students. Many students, who were unable to score well in their academics does not mean that they can not perform well in their jobs also.
The companies who come for campus placement became more smart and tricky while choosing the right candidate who fits in their needs and requirements. Now companies pay attention to all the stages of your academic field. They pay equal importance to 10th and 12th marks. All the recruiters who visit the campuses for recruitment decided to make a special criterion for selection, scoring good marks in engineering is not enough to grab a job in placement session. Most of the companies who visited the campuses for placement process this year is looking for such candidates who have a good track record in academics through out the years, it does not mean that they are solely bothered about the engineering, but looking at the present situation they are also looking for a candidate with good record in their 10th and 12th also.
A placement officer with an engineering college told “It is a part of the filtration process. Earlier, only two to three reputed companies used to indulge in this practice. But now it is being adopted by many.”
M Vijaydev, placement officer with the MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology also commented, “Now, they prefer to deal with students who have secured more than 60% in their 10th and 12th grades.”
Some students and teacher are happy with this process as it again proves the theory of survival of the fittest, but at the same time some teacher and students felt that it is not really and inspiring idea to do such kind of filtration at this stage. It might be possible that the students those who have done well in their 10th and 12th exam might not perform well in their engineering and vice versa. So we can not make it special criteria for selection, but we can consider these marks as add on.
