Mystory@Yash Sharma

I joined college to pursue 5 years integrated post graduate course (BTech + MTech). As this was a central government college, people from all over India were there in my class, people from north, east, west and south. It was a very versatile class and the best thing about our college was that we used to get a lot of time for self-study. Usually classes would be arranged after a discussion between Students and Professors, so that gave us some say in the timings and frequency of the classes. Monday to Friday we used to attend the classes and in between the classes we would get some time to interact with other students in breaks. There was a culture of self-learning in our college, which encouraged us to learn things ourselves which are otherwise not taught in our classes.

I was very enthusiastic about learning web technologies so I decided to spend my free time in learning those technologies and build interactive web pages and trust me with the online learning tools available these days it’s not really hard to do a lot of self-learning because not all things will be taught in your classes. Soon, I became very comfortable with the web technologies and started participating in several college level competitions to measure my skills against other students.

In a versatile college like ours it was very important to interact with people from different backgrounds to learn about their culture and also the different ways of thinking. It was a challenge and at the same time fun for me to get to know them and learn their ways of doing things. Different people brought different ways of doing things to the table and it was a challenge to work along with them on some of the projects that we did as part of our academics.

It is very important for a student to learn as much as they can during these college days because this is the time when the real learnings starts. You are interacting with your colleagues in the college, learning new stuff and at the same time you are trying to solve real life problems without any added pressure of earning money. I personally believe college time is the time when you try out different things and finally find your passion among one of those things and then follow your passion to achieve greater things in your life.

Looking back at my college life, I would not have done anything differently. I made some of the best friends in college and I met some of the smartest people. I am just grateful to have spent my time with such amazing people.

My only advice to my younger friends would be to that friends you should enjoy your time in the college, use this time wisely to find out your real passion, keep trying different things until you find your passion. Do not just waste this college time as it will never come back.

Think about the problems faced by our world these days and try to contribute your one bit to finding a solution to at least one problem. Life goes on but solving real problems will give you that satisfaction in your heart and make your life so much more pleasant.
