Plan to cover maximum syllabus in the last month before JEE Main
By: Tauseef Ahmad
Stay calm and focussed to enhance the confidence in the last month of any competitive exam like JEE Main.
Revise the notes: Covering the syllabus is not the key for cracking the JEE Main exam, what matters is the proportion that one could retain in the exam. Therefore, one must focus on revising their notes each day to ensure a better grip of the basic concepts and its application. Revise all the formulae thoroughly as most of the questions would be formula based. It’s not possible to revise and retain all the important formulae in a day, hence, the students should revise formulae daily during your last days before the exam.
Important topics: Based on the last year's JEE Main question paper, it is observed that the paper was quite balanced. Some of the important topics are given below.
Physics
Radioactivity, X-Ray, Atomic Structure and Photoelectric Effect are important topics. Â Besides these, some easy to cover and recurring topics include the Instruments, Unit and Dimension, and Relative, etc.
Chemistry
It’s a little difficult to identify important chapters in Chemistry, however, questions from topics such as Chemical Bonding, Transition Element and Coordination Compounds appear frequently.
Mathematics
Vector and 3D, Straight-line and Circles, are some of the frequently asked topics from Mathematics. Some of the easy to cover and recurring topics are Sequence and Series and Quadratic Equations.
The candidates could also divide the topics into categories of easy, medium and difficult in terms of their difficulty level and prepare the topics from easy to difficult or vice versa. Since tough concepts are harder to be retained, so it's the best practice to brush-up these concepts once or twice before the exam.
Practise mock tests: Take a minimum of one mock test a day and devise your paper attempting strategies accordingly. Identify the weak areas and work on them.
Question-solving approach: While practising mock tests and practice papers, one should first understand the question followed by the application of concepts and then solve the question within the minimum time possible.
Paper attempting strategy: The candidates appearing for JEE Main must devise a strategy for time management, selection of questions and accuracy of solving the questions to score well.
The sequence of attempting and solving the question paper must be chosen as per one’s own convenience and confidence on a topic or section.
In my opinion, aim the Chemistry section first as the questions are easier as compared to other sections such as Mathematics and Physics. Graph-based questions are easy to attempt, as candidates could use different parameters like inserting values, hit and trial, etc. to try out and eliminate the wrong options.
Maintain a healthy lifestyle: Don’t undermine your health amidst all the strain. Maintain a healthy sleeping schedule and a good diet, during these last days before the scheduled exam. This is often essential for a higher concentration level and good productivity during the exam.
