CAT 2009 From 28 Nov-7 Dec
The computer-based Common Admission Test (CAT) 2009 for admission to elite Indian Institutes of management will be held between 28 November and 7 December. Candidates can take the test on any of the days falling between these two dates. This is the first time CAT will be an online test.

A new networking site, Network DU, has been launched exclusively for Delhi University students. With over 2,000 registrations in just four weeks, The site aims to serve as a virtual campus to look for old friends, scholarships, information on paying guest accommodation, etc. The site is getting registrations from present students as well as alumni. New B.Ed. Course By IGNOU 
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched a new B. Ed. (Special Education) programme in collaboration with Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). The programme is being offered through distance learning mode in the area of hearing impairment, mental retardation and visual impairment. The programme has been initiated from July 2009 session. The duration of the programme is two years and the eligibility to join the programme is that the applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree from any UGC recognised University and have a minimum of two years’ experience in a special school environment in any disability area after graduation.

Kirori Mal College Expels Students Over Ragging
Taking strict punitive action for ragging, Kirori Mal College authorities have expelled two third-year students for allegedly ragging and sexually harassing a first-year student in the college hostel. Mr Akshay Chaudhary and Mr Hani Mohammad were expelled for ragging first-year student Mr Ashutosh. The decision was taken at a college disciplinary committee meeting.

'Earn While You Learn' Scheme For ITIs In Delhi
Delhi Cabinet has approved a scheme for students from Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the city to give them an opportunity to earn during the duration of their courses. The "Earn while you learn" scheme will help the students get work experience in government agencies. ITI students will be involved in maintenance works of government buildings and will earn a monthly stipend of Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000 for a period of three to four months. The scheme will be implemented under the aegis of Delhi Knowledge Development Foundation and the Delhi Skills Mission.
IIT Punjab To Become Functional From Aug 20
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Punjab will start functioning from its new campus from August 20. There will be last year's batch and the new batch of around 240 students in three disciplines from Rupnagar (formerly Ropar), around 60 km from Chandigarh. Initially, the institute will start operation with 11 teachers and around 15 professors of IIT Delhi will continue to help them in taking classes.

Australia India Institute To Improve Ties
To strengthen bilateral ties between India and Australia and to give assurance to Indian students, Australia will fund a new Australia India Institute at the University of Melbourne with more than $8 million. The Institute is a joint project of the University of Melbourne, La Trobe University and the University of New South Wales and they will invest around $2 million bringing the total investment in the project to more than $10 million over three years. The Institute aims to increase Australians' understanding of India, its culture, its history and its place in the world by producing and promoting specialised knowledge about India.
