Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main is a nation-wide exam with two papers -- Paper I and Paper II. An aspirant can choose to appear for either both or for one of the two papers. Each paper contains multiple-choice questions (MCQs). While Paper I is conducted online for admission to BE/BTech courses, Paper II is an offline test for those planning to study BArch and BPlan courses. Here we give you an insight on how to prepare for the exam with subject-wise tips you could put to use.

JEE Main Preparation Tips
Paper I
- Cracking government exams, we must be strong with basics. The questions that come in these exams are not very difficult but twisted to make the aspirant think.
- Having a timetable based on the syllabus helps in preparing in an organised manner. Also, begin your preparation with NCERT books and then study with your material. Some of the subject-wise books you can refer to are:
- Physics: Follow NCERT books of Class 11 and 12 such as Concepts of Physics by HC Varma
- Chemistry: For Organic Chemistry follow Peter Sykes, for Inorganic Chemistry follow J D Lee and for Numerical Chemistry follow P Bahadur.
- Maths: Algebra and Coordinate Geometry by S K Goyal Arahant Publication and NCERT books.
- Take online mock tests daily and check where you are lagging, concentrate more on those topics.
- Solve as many as possible previous years' questions so that you have some ideas on every topic.
- Managing time in exams had a strategy to solve. First, start with the subject your good at the start. With that subject attempt the direct bits and then go for the tricky questions then you can solve all questions.
Paper 2
Paper 2 is for admission to courses of BArch and BPlan Paper-II, which is having exams on Maths, Arithmetic Reasoning and Drawing.
JEE Main Dos and Don’ts
Dos
- Revise important topics and formulas
- Analyse your mocks and go your own notes
- Sleep a minimum for 6-8 hours
- Keep hall ticket, Id proof, pen, pencil, etc., all in one place
- Go exam centre on or before the reporting time
Don’ts:
- Don’t study a new topic before the exam
- Don’t take more stress
- Be in a positive attitude towards the exam and give your best, definitely, you will succeed
