Students’ Speak: Invest not only your money but time
By: Juturi Rajesh
I had faced a few challenges when I didn't get into the college of my preferred choice during counseling. I was not able to get adjusted to the college environment, students and the faculty. This badly affects our result in exams and leads to poor percentage or CGPA, which in turn results in placements.
This happened with me during my B.Tech counseling. When we don’t get the preferred college, it degrades our interest in academics, which in turn affects attendance. That finally leads to detention from that particular semester and that results in a loss of one year in total. After this, only a few students who realise the value of study will be able to attend classes even after detention because it is very hard to go to college and that too studying with your juniors.
There will be a chance of losing interest in studies and that’s it. This is when our dream seems to vanish. This happened with a few of my friends, and those who started their studies again are doing their masters in foreign and those who did not show any interest in studies later on (after detention) are struggling to get 10,000 a month by working as laborers. Take your studies seriously because it is not only your dream but also your parents too.
How to overcome these challenges?
There are many ways to overcome, few of which are the following:
- If you didn’t get your preferred college means you actually didn't score the marks well. So if you are confident enough, the advice is for you. Go for long term coaching and focus well. Before that, note down all the downs (what made you stop) and focus on those and after clearing all those obstacles, start your preparation for the long term. If needed, take coaching for the next time also, never ever feel shame for the long term because almost 30-40% of NITians and IITians fall under this category only. But remember one thing you’re not only wasting money but also your valuable time which you can’t get back once you stepped wrong. Think wise and invest your time.
- If you don’t get your preferred college and you don’t have a long-term interest then you have mainly two options, one of which is you can join the same college through management quota seats and next you can even join top private universities of which few are far better than many top government colleges. But this is so costly unless you are financially sound.
