Jeet Nishit Mehta, who was declared the topper of MTCET (Maharashtra Technical Common Entrance Test) on June 5th 2013, gets talking to Tuulika Misra about his success story – appearing for nothing less than 40 mock prelims and how it all paid off.

Q. An obvious question, how does it feel to be a State-level topper?

A.

It feels great and I am very happy about emerging a State-level topper. But above all I am satisfied for I gave my 100 percent into preparing for the exams and it paid off.

Q. Did you expect to top while preparing for the exams? What are your exact scores in MTCET and JEE Mains?

A.

Well! I always had the motivation and determination to be amongst the top Five, as I put in a lot of effort in preparing for the Entrance Test. However, after appearing for the test, I was confident I would emerge a topper. My score in MTCET is 197/200 and I scored 193 in JEE Mains.

Q. You have also cleared JEE Mains. What are your admission plans?

A.

Being a student of Maharashtra Board, my main aim was to crack MTCET and the preparation for my Board exams contributed towards scoring in JEE Mains. As far as my admission plans are concerned, I aim to pursue Computer Science now.

Q. Colleges on your wish list?

A.

I aim to pursue Computer Science from none other than Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute and am very confident I will get through.

Q. What was your percentage in class 12th and are you satisfied with your performance in JEE Mains?

A.

My percentage in 12th is 96%. Well! Yes, I am satisfied with my score of 193 in JEE Mains, as my main focus was to score big in MTCET and I was able to accomplish that.

Q. You sat for 40 mock prelims! When did you actually start preparing and what was your preparation strategy?

A.

Taking 40 mock prelims proved immensely beneficial, as it covered the complete course and helped me assess my preparation in a synchronized manner. Apart from the 40 mock prelims, I used to sit for tests every Sunday. I devoted 7-8 hours on my studies each day apart from attending regular lectures at college. I received private coaching for Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics.

Q. Any tips for aspirants?

A.

For all the aspirants who would be taking the exam next year, I would like to assert on the fact that one should never waste the valuable time, and should begin preparing right after 10th board exams. Any student aiming to crack the Entrance test should focus on indulging in regular revisions. I began preparing religiously right from 11th standard and have reaped the benefits of it.
