I had always been sure about pursuing hotel management: Kaustav Mukherjee

I had always been sure about pursuing hotel management but choosing a stream after class 10 is tough. After a lot of thought, I settled on commerce as I also aspired to become an entrepreneur. During high school, I started to learn more about various types of food and their method of cooking. As I learnt more, my desire to become a chef became stronger. After looking at a lot of colleges, I settled on Krystal School of Excellence as it has a renowned faculty and it seemed like I would gain more practical knowledge in this institution.

I had tried for colleges like Guru Nanak Institute of Hotel Management and IHM, Kolkata. There is an entrance exam with two components: general knowledge and mathematics. While the GK part was easy, maths was a bit tough to get through. Post entrance, I had a personal interview which according to me went well. I did not prepare as such for any of these exams. It was some work on my own along with a calm mind that got me through.

A typical college day consists of classes from 10 am to 1:15 pm with some short breaks in the middle. Post 1:15 pm we get a 45-minute break for lunch, which is used in mostly catching up with friends. Post 2 pm, we again have classes till 5 pm. The faculty is quite knowledgeable and helpful, which makes the classes interesting. Some of my favorite classes are food production practical and theory classes. Classes on leadership and personality development are also very interesting. There aren’t many sports in the college and that’s one thing I want to change about the place. I would like to introduce sports like cricket and football in college.

Over the years the college has helped me improve in a lot of ways, be it my communication skills or my way of behaving with others. The ambiance around me is pleasant and the friends I have made here are incredible. I am having the time of my life.
