Career in Sports
Sports have in the past been associated with physical exercise, a hobby and as a leisure activity. However, with greater cash flow those with potential and talent can consider taking it up as a lucrative career.
Sports ranging from Cricket, Table Tennis, Chess, Badminton, Lawn Tennis, and Hockey have been competitive and are played at a professional level inviting a large number of participants from across the country. The new entrants into the professional circuit are Golf, Formula Car racing, shooting and Archery.
A career in sports can cover one of the three following areas, though many sportsmen combine two or more:
Players, or participants who play in a professional capacity
Umpires, coaches and Physiotherapists
Administrators and officials
The Job
Players/ Sportsperson
- Professional athletes, cricketers, hockey players, tennis players, badminton to golf, chess players etc.
- Sportsmen associate themselves with public and private sector enterprises
- Get sponsorship from such enterprises to cover their cost that entails training,travel and living expenses.
- Participate in State/National and International level competitions
- Represent their country in a field of sport in Olympics/ Asian/ Commonwealth Games
Umpires, coaches and Physiotherapists
- Most Coaches are full time professionals who are trained in their specialized fields.
- Knowledge in the technical aspect of the game
- Rules/ regulations to be followed universally across the sports arena.
- Attend training programs to be abreast with the latest know-hows.
- Have good knowledge of sports equipment
- Physiotherapist are qualified professionals
- Coaches and Physiotherapists should be good listeners and sensitive to player's needs.
- Coaches and Physiotherapists should motivate players and be good critics.
