My learnings from the college life: Apoorva Dubey
It is said that college is the best part of one’s life and I agree with this sentiment. While graduating from school each one of us has this beautiful thought of growing up and going to college. While this thought seems very mushy, the process to choose a college isn’t. College is the foundation of our career and finding the college where we get the opportunity to learn, make mistakes and find our true calling is slightly difficult than we can imagine. I’ve been extremely blessed for I found the college that was doing exactly the same. Through experiential learning and unrestricted guidance, I’m allowed to wear a lot of hats. Hailing from a village and from being a dancer to an orator and representing South Africa, I’ve done it all at The Delhi School of Communication.
I came to know about this college for Post Graduate Diploma Program in Communication through my mentor in undergraduation final year. I was pursuing Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication and was clueless about which stream to pursue my masters in. I’m a very indecisive person by nature and so I was torn between three streams which were poles apart. I was confused between Advertising, Public Relations and Research and then my mentor told me about DSC. This college was providing exactly what I was looking for. The interview process was a different one from other colleges. Instead of grilling me for my marks Dean Kumar checked my presence of mind.
After six months in college, I started seeing positive changes in me. I can’t exactly point out what it was but along with making presentations, doing research, being a cine club member, a lot of things in me changed. So, if I sum up my learnings they would be the following:
- Be yourself because it’s beautiful. This college and the faculty here taught me to be myself and embrace all my quirks. It is the very base of confidence.
- Make mistakes because that is how you will learn. You can sit and wallow about the mistakes you’ve make or take them in the stride and make a beautiful learning out of it. I have a lot of such beautiful learnings.
- Failures really are a stepping stone to success and if you’ve any other outlook towards failure, it’s a wrong one. I’ve failed here several times each coming back seemed far easier.
- You can’t do master’s alone and I’ve been blessed with caring friends and supportive faculties who guide me and support me at every walk of life.
- Your critics are your best friends. It’s very easy to take criticism to heart and sulk about it because that requires zero amount of work. Making sure to learn from every criticism and take it positively.
My college learnings might be different from a lot of others and it’s because my college is very different from a lot of other colleges. The amount of support and love that I’ve received here from my friends and faculty around me is enormous. With all these learnings, I believe I’m ready to make a mark in the world. I’m still in the final year of my college so I’m very much looking forward to having more such learnings at The Delhi School of Communication.
