Mystory@Richa Popat

I wasn't a person who could cope up with number play or understand the weird looking graphs of the Commerce stream, and Science was a total bouncer, so I chose to go ahead with Humanities in my 11th and 12th grade. I dreaded History but knew that I'd manage well with that subject. I made a wrong choice in one subject but managed with that as well. 11th and 12th grades were tough on me when it came to adapting to the new school, and new people, and being a part of the student council made it more difficult.

I had a thing for writing and literature too back then and wanted to pursue English Honours. But, I gradually understood that it wasn't the thing for me with good enough career counselling session by a counselor of iLEAD at an Educational Fair. It was like a complete eye opener for me after I got to know that I had much better options after completing my school life with Humanities as my stream. I opted for a Bachelor's in Media Science as the course for my undergraduate at iLEAD, Kolkata, and today I feel that I'm going in the right direction by not opting for English Honours.

How I cracked college admission

To be honest, cracking the exam and interview for ILEAD seemed easy to me until I saw the question paper of the entrance exam. Logical reasoning and English didn't seem like much of a problem, but the current affairs and general knowledge questions gave me a tough time. That was when the little realisation kicked in that I should have spent more time reading newspapers and searching things of general knowledge on google than just downloading all the movies I had missed because of my board exams (now I'm much better placed compared to that time, all thanks to my intelligent friends at ILEAD).

It would be a little weird to say but I had only applied for this one college since I had lost hope on Xavier's after listening to a few stories and was lazy to apply at any other college which offered this course. I had thought of going out of Kolkata to pursue my bachelor's degree but for some reason I changed my mind.

How I made the most of my college years

I'm almost two years through college life now and I wouldn't lie about the fact that in a small corner in my mind I kind of dread the world outside the four walls of my college.

I'm almost two years through college life now and I wouldn't lie about the fact that in a small corner in my mind I kind of dread the world outside the four walls of my college. So, I'm making the most of the time I have left in this college. Mornings begin with hot coffee at the cafeteria and ends with a nice hour or two of chill sessions with friends on the terrace. Every day is new with a lot of fresh work (and even more pending work). Attending classes, spending time with friends, working on some assignment is how the day passes by. But it must be noted that all classes can never interest everyone. My interest lies in the subject Writing and Opinion Pieces in this semester, in fact I have always been inclined to subjects which included writing skills in some way or the other.

Speaking of extra-curricular activities, I do not have much time for that since I have work commitments outside of college which keep me busy for the rest of my day. If given a chance I would like to learn how to play guitar. I sing to myself all day and if I could play guitar some day as I sing to myself, it would be wonderful for me.

Change is the only constant. This is what I have learnt in all situations that I have faced in college. Any situation demands a person to give up on a certain level of their comfort to work or solve an issue. All good things don't look good together, so to maintain a balance there has to be a certain amount of loss on your part to get a good end result. People will come and go, work will start and end, but among all this the constant change is what has moulded me into the person I am today. I'm thankful for all that's happened till now and will happen in the future. All's not well until there are a few ups and downs. I'm enjoying the ups and downs being a strong headed person, keeping my cool and accepting everything that's coming my way.
