By Barkha Sethi
We often come across combination of words such as Body - Hand and Automobile - Wheel or say Eyes - See and Fingers โ Feel. There are many more similar examples.
Look at the above examples carefully. This is not just a combination of words. Thereโs a relationship between the words. For instance, hand is a part of the human body and wheel is a part of an automobile. Similarly, the function of eyes is to see and that of fingers is to feel.
This relationship between two words is called Analogy. In other words, when you associate information or meaning in certain word (subject) to another word (subject), it is called analogy.
Various management entrance tests, such as CAT, MAT, CMAT, SNAP and many more tests the candidateโs knowledge of analogies. Since, analogy refers to relationship between two things, based on our knowledge we have to find another set of words possessing the same relationship.
It is fun to solve questions based on analogies but it is not always easy to solve them.
