College Review: MITCON Institute of Management
However, MITCON does not provide a very clear picture about its previous placement seasons to management students. After all, one of the primary reason people opt for a management degree is to get a high paying job at a respectable post and company and if that aspect itself feels a little shady then having your doubts is natural.
Infrastructure
The most impressive aspect of the college is its six-storey building which houses all the essentials of a good management institution such as conference halls, computer labs, seminar halls, classrooms and library. Each classroom is equipped with projectors. An aspect to surely bring a smile to your face is that the college offers free wifi connectivity to students at no additional cost. However, one sphere in which the institute needs to improve manifolds is the library. The quality as well as the quantity of the books on offer is not up to the mark.
Faculty
The college has an impressive line-up of professors who are well qualified and possess minimum 3-4 years of teaching experience in their respective fields. However, the student to teacher ratio is very high and so more faculty needs to be hired. On the whole, teachers are very supportive and corporative and try and give as much individual attention to students as is possible. The institute also regularly invites guest faculty who mostly visit on Saturdays.
Through insider information we got to know that the best faculty members are Shrividya Srisharan from the Finance Department and Sachin Lele of the Marketing Department. Their in-depth subject knowledge as well as interesting, interactive teaching methodology makes them a hit among the students.
Teaching Techniques
Students are not burdened with exams and are mostly not subjected to surprise tests. Faculty members prefer to conduct discussion based sessions in classes whenever and wherever possible. Since each classroom is equipped with a projector, presentations are the primary mode of teaching and after each lecture; students are provided with notes/handouts in the form of PDFs and PPTs.
Students are not provided with laptops, which in today’s time is a common practice among most of the other management institutes. However, if one so wishes he/she can carry their personal laptops to class.
Placements
The average package offered ranges between 4-5 lakhs. An exception was made in 2013 when a student of the pharma course was placed at a package of 11 lakhs. Companies which come for campus placement include Crisil, Reliance, Café Coffee Day etc.
Attendance
A minimum of 75% attendance is mandatory for students to sit through the semester exams. The teachers are not very strict on reporting time for class. A student confided that most of the faculty members do not say anything if you are late to class, however, some may scold you for a few minutes and then let you enter.
College Crowd & Hangout Places
Considering that the college is in Pune, it does not go with the hype around “Pune crowd is the best”. This B-school doesn’t have any cut-off and so it houses more of local crowd. The crowd is not rowdy but isn’t too great either.
MITCON has a great campus along with an awesome sporting facility. Students are mostly seen hanging out at the TT, basketball or volleyball courts. If not there, then be sure to see students huddled together right next to the cafeteria.
Canteen
The college canteen is surely nothing to brag about. It is definite neat and clean but it lacks variety. If students want to have something different they are forced to order it separately.
College Fest
MITCON Institute of Management, every year organizes two, much talked about events– Reflections (annual inter-institutional summer project competition) and Youth Fiesta (four-day mega inter-institutional cultural event). Events at the later include business quiz, street play, fashion show and the likes. Another event which garnered a lot of attention at the fest in 2013 was the Pune Times Fresh Face Competition.

Verdict
Our verdict would be that the college is good as far as the infrastructure and faculty is concerned. But since students are not given a clear picture about placements, it opens up a big question mark on how one will fair after spending exorbitant fee on the management course. So, the institute still needs to grow so as to provide over-all development to a student which is essential for anyone pursuing a management degree.
